I wonder if we will play Champion in the position he has played the majority, if not all, of his 105 NRL games (Right Centre)?

It might not hurt? Hoppa is versatile enough to play left side.

They might also just be looking at him as a backup?

I fit Champion will surprise a lot of people on here.

I rate Beau Champion, actually thought we should've bought him when Souths shoved him off to Melbourne. He has been hampered by injury this season, but lets face it, Souths have Dylan Walker at Right Centre, and he is an absolute gun, so I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't going to get a run anyway.

I do agree that he hasn't showed much away from Souths, but perhaps that could be attributed that he also just hasn't settled into the environment away from Sydney. At least if he comes to us he can continue to live in the same place.

I think it would be a good signing if it comes about.

If true this is a slap in the face for Morgs and also means that Arthur rates Morgs about the same as most of us.

Only if Champion gets picked over Morgan. On a one year deal it doesn't look like Arthur rates Champion too much.

But every club needs three centres capable of playing first grade, just like us this year.

I would think its more to do with the 2016 salary cap and upgrading Goodall and/or Davis because I think Goodall in particular can be so much better than Champion.

He needs to spend a year in the centres to learn how to defend there as his offence is coming along OK

I dont think Champion is in BA's long term plans.

Champion sounds like a stop gap measure. We look to be heading for a major spending spree for 2016.

Why wouldn't we just play Goodall on the wing? It's the position he plays correct?

Correct, and that's almost certainly where he will debut. He seems a bit big (by which I mean he lacks agility) for the centres.

However he has played centre in the lower grades lately, but then Vai Toutai plays centre for Wenty too, and he doesn't seem to be a centre option in first grade.

In the lower grades the rule tends to be play your best players closest to the middle of the field regardless of their strengths and weaknesses.

The spending spree will be retaining Hopoate.

Champion is likely coming in as our third centre, with maybe John Folau slated to replace him in 2016 (after a year at Wenty). Or Davis when he graduates from the NYC.

Luke Kelly doesn't play on the wing?

But seriously, I'm hoping that BA has learnt from the Vai 'experiment' and won't play centres on the wing & vice versa, if he has the option that is

I would say even if he does rate Morgan what about origin time? Or what if someone is injured.
We have lost Tonga and Sio from our backline. And over origin Hayne and Hoppa.Goodal-falou and Davis maybe part of the 2015 team.Id say if any are going to be real stars they will crack it next year at some point. But if there not ready Champion gives you some cover.Whats not too like about this signing? It would be cheap so even if it doesnt work out it wont hurt us.And the upside is he could play well just like David Gower.

I agree Champion is a good signing. Actually the one year contract makes it perfect.

With Tonga leaving we need another decent centre in the squad.

Beau Champion would be a poor signing for Parra. This is because he does not make it on to the field often enough

Debuted in 2005 but has only played just over 100 games. In the last 3 years he has only managed about 20 games total. Very injury prone these days
