because he had already signed with the warriors.
Luke Metcalf initially signed with the New Zealand Warriors on November 15, 2021,
The Cronulla Sharks' main group began their 2022 pre-season training in late November 2021,

This is true, but Fotzy was announced as coach long before Nov 2021.
At the time there was plenty of talk of him being in contact with the Sharks playing group in between his work with the Rooters.
He would surely have had conversations with Metcalfe or, at the very least, his manager about Metcalfe's prospects moving forward.

The writing was on the wall - Nicho was signed to play the same role, so Metcalfe was being bumped back in the queue.
Who could blame him for looking for opportunities elsewhere?

He makes a good point, and not to sound like a prude, but he could drop half his "f**ks" and he'd sound better.
You're right
The same information delivered more eloquently comes across with more punch.
Just because its a footy poddie doesn't mean its just bogans listening to it.
But that's Willie.
However, he does have very insightful perspectives on the game.

I dumped that on here because it dovetails nicely with the earlier vid I posted of Jimmy M.

If anyone listens to JM from the 33 - 39 mins he explains the science between halfback play and the lack of explicit 'halfback coaching' coming through the grades - and this difference is what Nathan Cleary brings.

Willie explains the what and how that allows Cleart to do what he does. Media heads wax ad nauseum about how he is the benchmark.
But its more than a God given talent.

It starts with his teams defence.
Willie explains pennies are dictating off their defence. Controlling what the other team does with the ball to set themselves up for when they get it back.
Footy smarts.
A science.

Its starts with teaching young guys to 'think' about the game. Jimmy explains this. The way halfbacks need to think about the atta k formation.

Which all comes back to the point I've been banging on about...

- I do not see our halves improving the more
they play together.
- I have not seen improvement in Hynes game as a 7. Probably going backwards.
- I have seen Trickys game as a controlling half go backwards since moved to 6.
- I have not seen nor heard of any explicit coaches/mentors for this - the most important position in the team - being employed by our club to assist these guys.

After listening to Jimmy talk....what a resource he would be.
To get him onboard and pass on this knowledge to not only our 6 and 7 - but our coach who talks verbatim about sorting this shitshow out, but obviously has no idea because nothing changes.

Penalty’s on tackle 1 would stop a lot of the 6 agains
Either this or play the advantage for 2 tackles, tell the attacking team you're playing the advantage and then re-start the tackle count after tackle 3.

A restarted tackle count on tackle 1 with a slow play the ball is meaningless.

you are comparing a guy that has won a dally m, came third the following year only missed out on winning by a few votes, was also leading it in his third year before injury, played for nsw and aus and played in 2 prelim finals to a guy that hasnt managed to put a full season together in those 4 years. metcalfe has played 40 games over the last 5 seasons compared to nicho who has has won 58 of his 94 NRL Premiership games for Cronulla. This represents 61.7%.
nicho has had more wins than metcalfe has games played.

I'd love a dollar for every meeting Ive sat in where someone has used a PowerPoint and presented data and statistics to make their point.

And you know the truth ain't that.

Just go back and watch last season.

Nicho's never been the same since the origin debacle and then having to babysit his mother. Was flying before that and has never got his mojo back, be nice if he rediscovered the early form but I'd be lying if I was to say I think that'll ever happen.

Shhhhh…. You’ll get crucified on here for supporting Nicho or Fitz. Yes Nicho has been a bit patchy at times but he’s not Robinson Crusoe there. When the forwards have a decent crack (like they did yesterday) it lays the platform for the halves to do their thing. Never mind also that he’s one of the best defensive halves in the comp.

So if you have a shit day at work do you give money back
Where do I start with this post tiger. You and those that liked the post totally missed the point.

In my industry, my role is paid xxx amount, my colleagues with similar experience and tenure are paid very similar, certainly within a consistent band.

Additionally I have around 240 days at work that matter (a lot). If I have a bad day, I have immediate consequences that potentially impact my earning capacity.

Nicho has 24 days at work that matter. If he screws up on 33% of them (conservative) he gets paid the same (25k per week), has zero risk of being dropped and well let’s face it answers to no one.

Hardly comparable to me or any other person in the community TS.

Metcalfe walked out twice. He walked out this time without even a conversation. He is I want it yesterday type vs say a KL who buys in. Is what it is. Happy with how it worked out.

It wasn't just Nicho blocking him but it was Trindall(Moylan), Nicho, WK etc at a time we were flying.

why re we still talking about metcalf

guy plays 12 games a year
Cause it’s easier to blame someone, something, anything as a reason for something we can’t control.
It’s human behaviour.
For the record, from memory I was sort of surprised how it played out but more by Healy’s kid.
Wait till the game day thread Sunday, it will be either pro or negatory Metcalfe.
Hopefully a better showing by us compared to last years debacle at home. I left with 20 mins to go from memory.
Oddly enough, Metcalfe wasn’t seen again due to injury, like most years
