Rumoured Signings

At least Brown with his kamikaze runs can lift his teammates. Happened a few times in different games this year. There’s no upside to signing Bird. Manly’s recruitment team has lost the plot. May as well promote youth , something that their forwards could use. Manly’s recruiting seems totally random and reeks of desperation.
2024 maybe, this season he was pure buns.

Time to give Dwz the flick
I mentioned in the Warriors/Panthers thread in the first week of the finals that the Warriors should target Khan-Perreira. I’d love to see the Warriors nab a premiership in the coming years as it would really accelerate the interest in league over there and could even result in a north and south Kiwi team in the NRL which would foster a great rivalry.

In my opinion they are 3 players short of challenging for the premiership . If I was recruiting for the Warriors I’d throw the cheque book at Trei Fuller primarily as a winger. He has electric pace and would complement KP. From what I saw on the weekend against PNG his knee reconstruction hasn’t compromised his pace at all. In terms of acceleration I would probably rank him at no. 3 behind Walsh and Weekes.

Although it would be unlikely I’d also open the cheque book for Jaxon Purdue for 2027 .Has great wheels and if he or KP or Fuller get in the clear it would be shut the gate. He’s probably waiting to cash in on the next franchise but you never know.

I’d also chase Williams Kennedy . He has only signed a 1 year extension with the Sharks but would be a good attacking upgrade.

If Purdue is out of reach I’d chase Iro (but he’s signed until 2029 so that’s unlikely). Even Hiroti who would be an upgrade.

So in summary I think the Warriors need a new fullback, wing and centre. Fuller and Kennedy should be within reach for wing and fullback. If the Purdue and Iro options are a bridge too far I’d go for Hiroti.

Never been a fan of cnk he’s way overrated

Rts is off to r360 hopefully Dwz follows him

And the others 3 letter abbreviation (cht) he’s awful too

Webster seems like a good guy , but the Warriors need some tinkering with their squad to be genuine premiership threats. Their forwards can hold their own but , even with Metcalfe calling the shots, they don’t have the firepower in attack to trouble the better teams. An attacking fullback is a must for their team and Kennedy fits the bill. He still has good pace as well.

Fuller as a winger in addition to covering fullback would be a great signing. CNK is a solid player but won’t get the Warriors close to a premiership. RTS had a reasonable year but is past his best. The latter would ,I imagine, free up a fair bit of cap space if he left. And DWZ seems like a coach favourite but maybe should move to a coaching role.

The best comparison I can make to CNK is Peta Hiku when he played fullback for Manly. He didn’t have much pace but he’d regularly run for over 250 metres per match. They weren’t metres though that made much of a difference in terms of winning and losing. You need a fullback with pace plus/minus the skill to be a ball player.

And can any Newcastle fans on here explain why the Dogs paid over 800k per season for Leo Thompson ? He looked fairly ordinary this year. Paying overs for players based on their potential invites disappointment into your life.

Average running metres 116 per game for the Knights. Which is a lot more than anybody bar Max King got at the Bulldogs. He has a slightly bigger body that we have been missing. Decent offload. And seems to have a good motor on him which should after on offseason should fit in well. It's not like you can just go out to the market and buy exactly what you need in the middle space. So him starting should be a decent 1-2 punch to start the game.

Then that should complement the guys we are developing below him and give them some time be better prepared when there time comes.

Bought, not bred

Welcome back to 2004 when that was said by Malcolm Noad. That said, the club at the time was very much of that type.

But all clubs buy players. You can't develop them all. There will always be gaps. Even the Panthers who are producing juniors in spades buy players, Blaze Talangi anyone?

I do like your monkier "85 baby" celebrating when the Bulldogs won the comp. Good stuff!!

Why didn’t they loosen the purse strings a bit more to get AFB for 1M per year instead. Would have been an infinitely better purchase and is exactly what that need.

Gus never met the bloke. But seriously, we did chat. Obviously AFB thought the Sharks were a better fit for his talents. At the time of signing, they were much closer than we were to being a premiership force which is something that obviously interested him. I'm sure if he had his time again, he might have reconsidered that move.

Not sure where youre getting your info but the NRL site has him at 98m , not 116m.

Maybe he had his mind on 2026 but he was very average for Newcastle this year. So much so that he has lost his Kiwi jersey

ah, I grabbed the Maori stats. Either way, that is still better than any other middle the Bulldogs have on the books this year apart from Max King. That's pretty damning in itself. So he is an upgrade after having a down year at the knights where everybody looked crap.

He averaged 104 in 2024. So that seems to be what he will add to the Bulldogs. I think the next best we have currently was around 77m a match. So that's an upgrade either way.
