Yes. Robert Toia, Naufahu Whyte, Sam Walker, Siua Wong, Blake Steep, Reece Robson, Hugo Savala, so "old and over the hill" :p

I'm talking about hitting the market. Those are guys you brought through the ranks. Of that list only Robson was bought ready made.

Anyway I liked the transit lounge days. Especially the fatty year.

This article might be of some interest. Chd Townsend has done a podcast where he went through his entire 2025 NRL contract and outlines many of the feature from it, including things like superannuation, agent fees, leave entitlements. Its worth having a read of this -

So next time when you read of supposed salaries, note what it includes (e.g. superannuation comes out of the player's salary and not "on top" of their salary like most of the rest of us).

Pretty common to be offered a gross remuneration package that includes super. Every professional services firm does it.

Plus employer super is capped at $30k a year.

No they aren't. They are employees, have PAYG withheld etc. He even says it himself.

Have you done contracting work? THey still can do that, they withhold the PAYG stuff on each paycheck. I had to pay my own super, but I'm sure the NRL works it so players have cash later in life. I'm sure if I asked as a contractor for them to handle super it would have been done.

100% employees by ATO definition

Monthly (standard) payday
Annual Leave provisions
Workers Comp
Exclusive use of player (ie cant play for another club whilst under contract)
Club picks what hours they work

There may be some quirks or distinctions for professional sports contracts (ie 5 yr averaging salary declarations) but by in large they are employees

Is anybody arguing anything different? It's not like a player can subcontract his work out to someone else. But at the end of the day, no different to when I did loads of 6mth contracts, I am an employee of the place for that period, but I have a wildly different experience and treatment than those who are directly employed by that employer.

I've done tax returns for NRL players. They are employees. They are no different to any other employee.

LOL my god

'Did you know that we have to pay tax and super'

Players really don't really do a great job of showing how in touch they are with the common man

edit just watched it fully

'the club can use our faces on advertising (yeah like membership) and we dont get paid for it, we really get ripped off with that.'

Nah this is garbage, thats part of your wage Chad

Now has a cry about having to pay health insurance

'Normal people take a sick day when they're sick, I never once took once. I also never took parental leave, oh actually yes I did.'

Skims over them getting 9 weeks leave very quickly

Except they are contractors, and that's a different employment type than say a front office person who isn't under contract, gets long service leave etc. Maybe they are the same from your accountancy point of view, but in a workplace view, it's very different.
