Cronk is 33 in December. Norman is 25, so on a longer contract Norman has more upside. I think Cronk could be a great signing on a one year deal.

If Norman's manager prices him out of the Eels, then we go with a cheaper but still adequate option (e.g. Green). If we'd advance planned on some money for a contract upgrade for Norman we can instead decide whether we want to go to market for an attaking fullback option, or pay more than Paulo's current wage for a replacement front row option (our weakest positions for 2017?).

If we're currently close to the cap, the sum total of money spent toward 2017 all has to balance out as well. Although it seems likely we'll have Watmough's planned salary stll to spend as well...

I reckon Moses could play similar role to Norman. And defensively you'd think he'd have to improve at some point

I agree.

They are both players of the future and have shown plenty.

They are suffering from being in an inconsistent team with little depth and little experience, with no confidence and quite probably internal conflict.

More importantly they are both young inexperienced halves so they are both massive targets - nowhere to hide.

Either of them playing in a better team with an experienced half would both be travelling much better.

The Tigers being maybe a bit too far sighted trying to hold onto both young halves. Someone like Blake Green would be a great signing, if they let one of the youngsters go. Cronk would be ideal but they probably couldn't afford him. Farah is a dead weight around that club's neck.

We cut him once before. Has he forgiven us ? :D

Which is why Moses' debut, most likely at fullback rather than his customary position at five-eighth, will be a reward for perseverance. For not turning it up when, inexplicably, Parramatta punted the kid considered one of the brightest young prospects in the game.
"I wanted to stay there but it's their decision and I respect it," he said. "I played my junior footy at Carlingford Cougars ... Then I went to Parramatta and played Harold Matts there. [Tigers recruiter] Warren McDonnell came up to me, showed some interest and I jumped at the opportunity to play at the Tigers.

I remember when we signed norman it was said to be 435k a season. He was in reserves for a bit of the year snd many thought he was just a 1-2 season wonder. At the time people balked at the price tag.
3 yrs is a long time and halves price tags has risen. I would say we paid overs to get Norman here. And his first year was only average.Last year he started to come good and this year we are getting good value out of him. Some people forget his first season thou when many called for his head.

Foran id say would be costing around 900k of our cap. Norman has more flashes of brilliance and i think could end up with the better career.A higher ceiling. But Forans low games are less common and not as big a swing as Normans. Forans bad games are like a 7.Normans are a 5.
Foran is more composed and less eratic a better decision maker and a cooler head. Norman has silker skills and more enjoyable to watch.

We originally took a huge punt on Norman. He could of also been a flop.
Throw him 750k and no more. If he walks then so be it . Pay to much and we will end up with bog average forwards and both halves will look $hit.

I reckon that's bullshit. Back in 2010 Stagger told us we had lost our promising Harold Matts halfback (this was the undefeated team with Pritchard, Pauli and Tanginoa) to the Tigers due to the influence of the kid's uncle Ben Elias. Of course the kid was some nuffy most of us had never heard of, named Mitch Moses.

Where we seem to disagree is whether paying overs for Foran means we should also pay overs for Norman, or even pay his legitimate value. If anything, having Foran in our team means we should be looking for a cheaper option to partner him - e.g. someone on roughly as much as Norman is currently on. If Foran can improve Corey Norman (and earlier this season DCE looked like he was missing someone as well) then he can improve another halves partner.

No I dont think we disagree there at all. The fact that we may have paid overs for Foz probably means we cannot afford to pay overs for Norman, a slight difference.

Brett Read said on 2MMM that Norman's manager wants $1M.

well it must be true then :sarcasm:

I'd take Blake Green over those nuffys from the Wtigers.

EDIT: BTW there was a suggestion that Benji might be pushed our way. Please no. Like the merkins from the wtigers and after the Sandow era, I could not cope with a half defending on the wing again.

ditto

If cronk cost the same as norman I'd take cronk

lol

if we cant afford Norman, how the f**k can we afford the current Australian halfback

1 year ? I thin BA would be planning a bit further ahead than that

Probably means we never wanted to either. Is Norman the type of player to pay overs for? I think he is more influenced by the players around him than vice versa.

He was always going to the Tigers, any excuse to bag Parra

Norman's pretty good but when he stops in exasperation and stares daggers at his teammates, with the ball in hand, I get annoyed.

And Moses is quite small.

Yeah he's not much chop really, should let him go.

Spine positions aren't that important.

You're the one who said we can't afford Norman, I just said we might not want to pay what other clubs are offering.

Personally I'm sure we could afford him (or Cronk) - we have plenty of blokes off contract. But anyway I didn't mean Cronk would be a good signing for us - Foran is a similar player. But Cronk for one year (even two) would be a good signing for plenty of clubs.

1 year ? I thin BA would be planning a bit further ahead than that

I doubt Cronk is looking for a single year either.

Really depends if he's going all out because it's a contract year and not give a shit next year, or has he genuinely improved with view that he could improve more? Only the football office will know
