Take a moment and watch this again, some footage I’ve not seen before. f**k me dead, as amazing Reece Walsh is, Hayne is unbeaten in freakiest talent competition, like ever.

He just had it all, absolute raw power and pure strength, a passing game any modern half could wish for, blistering speed, like blistering, defensive dominance to monster the other player, incredible kicking game to kick you out of trouble and get you a repeat set and so much more.

The most complete rugby league player I’ve ever seen.

Sigh, what could have been.

Thinking about Hayne when he first started under Brian Smith on the wing I remember thinking this guy has talent. Same as when I first saw Reece Walsh on the wing for Warriors.

Very similar in that they both have deceptive acceleration off a small step, sublime long pass that can cut out and or short pass feigning long, everything else you said but the thing that separates Hayne from Walsh is his size and physical presence/strength.

As you said "raw power and pure strength". I got a photo with him and my boy after the Tigers game in the 2009 run to the finals and he was absolutely huge. Bigger than Fui and about the same size as Feleti Mateo but with several time over the speed, guile and raw footy nouse.

Wasnt it jason taylor?
"Jarryd Hayne was first selected to play for the Parramatta Eels in the National Rugby League (NRL) in 2006, where he made his debut at the age of 18. He was initially chosen to play on the wing by head coach Jason Taylor for the match against the Penrith Panthers on 19 May 2006."

Whoah!

Hat's off to you, mate. And credit to Taylor who nurtured him through his first season.

Geeze, I often doubt my memory these days. I have the photos to prove me and my boy stood next to Hayne, Mateo, Fui and Hindmarsh after the 2009 Tigers game run the to the finals though.

One thing everyone forgets about that amazing 2009 run was how in peak form Mateo and Inu were, and how well our halves fed that backline.

After 2009 Mateo and to a lesser extent Inu kept on too much the last pass Hail Mary flick with high percentage failure rate. In 2009 in that run home they were coming off >90% of the time. That was a super impressive Eels team who all hit peak form, Fui was a powerhouse and as I've noted before was dudded by the final ref call of hanging on in the tackle of Scumdog Knees in the Spine Slater.

Thinking about that 2009 GF now I have to temper my praise for Hayne with that brain explosion failure to catch the Scum bomb right on half time. It was between him and Burt and it was clearly Hayne's to take. Inglis took it easily and strolled over to take what was a match winning lead.

I wonder if Hayne has nightmares about that misread?

Oh hey, mate.

You’re on the cans early today, aren’t you?
Started work at 04:30 this morning and now I'm done for the next 24!

I know I can be a trial at times what with my constant blackout posting of music videos, and I'm genuinely sorry about that, I tried to ban myself but my inebriated other self knows how to reset a password.

I loved your poetic take on Hayne and recommend you try to set it in an old school ballad style.

You are an original, do you ever have a conversation with your other self ?

I saw that while working at Darwin getting drunk in the lead up to a huge job.

The week before Anderson had the Eels run dead getting flogged by the Dragons and everyone wrote us off. Biggest psych out ever in the history of NRL.

Anderson doesn't get enough credit for that 2009 finals run, they put it all down to luck.

It was a man management masterclass only undone by a wrong ref call in the dying minutes of the grand final as we were steaming irrepressibly home.
