Rumours and Stuff

Sean Russel signing a $5/600k x 4 deal with WA was not on my Bingo card.

As Bernie Gurr said on TCT, everything about Parramatta is usually not as good as you think it is and most importantly, certainly not as bad.

Which pretty much summarises this thread.

FMD I am going to dry reach the next time I read the words “front office”.

There sure are a lot of villain hunters on here.

Sean found his Alan Bond. Good on him. He's taken better coaching and systems on board and has turned himself into an NRL player. A $2m to $2.4m windfall that Our Eels would not match and rightly so.
I suspect there may be a few more average players turned into NRL players by the new regime.

its a great time to be a free agent.

anyone thinking we are going to find a steal in this market needs to re check their expectations.

For what position?

He wants to play in the halves. We aren’t going get him here to play centre unless it was for stupid money.

I personally think he’d be an elite fullback.
Purdue could be 5/8 next to Moses in 2027.

But it seems pretty clear the direction the club are going and they are thinking Lorenzo is the one but is obivously still 12 months away. And needs a full season in NSW Cup.

Which is fine.

But you would also hope the strategy we have decided to take here he ends up being the talent and future first grader they think he will be.

Because its going to be seen as a failed strategy if he doesnt break through.

And were left stranded in 18 months with no viable options next to Moses.

And basically held up signing any long term options in this period banking on these kids coming through in 2027.

Yeah, its not a great time to be a club with ordinary juniors and also desperate to win first ship in a record 35 years.

middle of the road and no chance of a premiership = wild success.

Welcome to Pou World, where mediocrity is our business.

Loving mediocrity doesn't make you better or smarter than Eels fans, it just means you are resigned to losing and are conditioned to love it.

Of course, there is a more likely option at play, which is that you are not really a Parramatta fan and get your rocks off by taunting genuine Parra fans?
I don't like losing either, I just don't feel the need to blame anyone but the players. Likewise when we win. We won 10 times this year and I f**king loved it. I drove a long way for some of them.

I believe you've been an Eels fan for many decades, so don't pretend you're not conditioned to accept mediocrity. Otherwise you would've given up by now.

The big issue is what planning have we done to ensure that the backline has some depth, what on earth does the list manager accomplish , a threadbare 3/4 line , Tago in the top 30 (seriously must be there on a promise and to make up the numbers ahead of round 1).

Think just about every supporter foresaw the issue with the backs, and nothing has happened . An indictment on ability somewhere in the club to be blind to such a big hole, and now waiting for someone to fall out of the tree. Let’s hope autumn brings a big shedding, because it’s worrying currently if we get even one Backline injury in 2026.

The old regime did the same thing. Russell is still in his early twenties, so he should be improving each year. The real question is why Will Penisini went backwards this year. He is the same age as Russell.

I dont think any on here are blaming the club for not matching the offer.

It would been more ludicrous if we did tbh.

Sean got a payday good luck to him

The biggest concern now is who are we going to replace him with.

The stocks are already low.

Are we going to be more desperate and offer Brian Kelly a 3 year deal now instead of two years.

Which would be downright stupidity.

I see Josh Hannay and the titans have snapped up Hiroti from the Sharks whose likely going to be Brian Kelly's replacement.

Like whose come out with the better deal in that 3 way deal.

Probably the Titans.

Hiroti has more upside/potential and is younger then Brian Kelly.
We need to replace Russell for 2027, which is over 12 months away. Players can improve a lot in that time, especially young outside backs. Cyrus Bloomfield turns 19 in 2027. Plenty of outside backs played Harold Matts at 17 and first grade at 19.

Hiroti is a nuffy. I wouldn’t be surprised if they replaced Kelly internally, with Hiroti backfilling whomever takes Kelly’s place.

We don’t need planning because Jimmy said the phones are ringing off the hook.

The immortal Tago into the top 30 is a such a strategic move by Jimmy and MON. Those tactical geniuses sprinkled some of their magic on that move.

And don’t forget we have another speedster up our sleeve. SIMRANI!!! This world beater is our secret weapon. Apart from his awesome defensive prowess where he’s not exposed at all, it’s His pure speed that puts many 5 year olds to shame.

Jimmy got Dis!

Which clubs recruitment guys are doing a good job? And which are doing a below average job?
Seems the Storm can get who they like. Just signed Davy Moale, who I thought was going to Manly, without any problems it seems. Is it the club itself, salary benefits, Bellyache, facilities, etc as thought Perth would be well in the market for him. Did the same last few years getting 2 forwards from Westigers who were under contract but had options.

im sure he is well paid, a nice remuneration, company car, phone, something we couldn't shake out of our tin pot.
I reckon we have all that shit too. It’s a matter of scale. How many well paid staff can an NRL club afford? We certainly started hiring more full time pathways staff after paying off the CoE.

Moale’s still going to Manly. But they can’t fit him in before 2027 so the Storm got him for the coming season. Just like us with Pezet.
