Fairly sure I have also read from someone on here saying the same about older players and being payed less. Wouldn't be the same person who is now saying the opposite đŸ˜‚
Paid less in the later years of a long contract. JDB has only signed for a year. This could be his last ever contract.

Not for JDB, even Saints didn't want him and no one else even sniffing. $300k max for me.
Did you see how good he was last year? Plenty of clubs would’ve been sniffing. At $300k he could’ve gone anywhere he wanted. This means wherever he landed would’ve been for a lot more than that.

I still don't understand how the NRL could bring in extra teams before trying to improve the grass roots and the reserve grade competitions.

Flegg is almost meaningless these days for players once you are too old for SG Ball and are good enough you basically move straight into the NSW CUP side and if you do end up in Flegg your just making up the numbers..

Honesty I think the NRL should be taking the Matt's Ball and Flegg from NRL sides and having them run independently for m NRL sides and have the players move up from Matt's to Flegg and then go all-in for an NRL draft system.

10 teams in NSW and QLD 2 in Victoria Teams in NZ PNG Perth ect.
Back in the day there was an under 21s comp called President’s Cup and it was binned for this exact reason. The only good players in that comp were teenagers not ready for reserve grade.

Yep it was also still run by clubs. Maybe if the juniors are run independently it may allow more players to come through and also increase longevity of players.

I also thought flegg was kinda useless but thinking about jt i think it still provides a platform for young players to develop their game when theyre too good for SG but not good enough for nsw cup. If flegg didnt exist Lincoln fletcher and Lorenzo would be in a weird limbo. I imagine lots of young players fall into this category

Draft system sounds really interesting but lots of holes in terms of funding. I cant imagine teams would want to spend money on players they want to develop only for them to be drafted by another team. Would have to be nrl funded etc.

I think Flegg is still useful but it does has its flaws.

On the draft the NRL teams wouldn't be funding the juniors so they won't be spending any money until the player is drafted.

But in the end of the day junior development is based alot around the staff and resources. If the NRL was wanting to change the system it would take time and money.

Im telling you now. It will dilute the player between about 13 clubs while 4 or 5 powerfull ones will pull further away as get the ones they want. It's kinda shit
The proposed 6 man interchange option is going to even further widen the chasm between strong and not strong clubs. People with depth like Broncos, Roosters and Storm will make a mockery of this. Imagine last year Melbourne have Wishart sitting in bench spot 5 or 6. Roosters this year have specialist halves waiting to go whilst boringly running 4 forwards.

The day of the Mr Fixit are gone and the top clubs will have a specialist half on the bench that is probably better than the starting halves for the weaker clubs.

I think it’s a shocking. Origin is won or lost on bench selections and it’s a really exciting piece of coaching.

Pus you then have the backup options missing cup game time if the NRL team are travelling or the reserves play first.

I think it’s a bit rich for us to be fully playing victims when he broke a contract to come to us in the first place, the NRL really should take a hardline stance against some dickhead who has now broken two contracts in two seasons though.
Not really the way it panned out, was it ? I agree he asked for a release, but it was granted unconditionally for him to play 2025 + elsewhere.

The St George Illawarra Dragons have reached an agreement with Zac Lomax and his management for his departure from the club at the conclusion of the current season.

While Lomax will fulfill his contractual obligations with the Dragons for the 2024 season, his contracted years for 2025 and 2026 will be terminated with no financial contribution to be made by the club in these years, allowing him the freedom to explore opportunities with other clubs effective immediately.

"By finalising this decision now, it provides both Zac and the club with clarity regarding the future, allowing us time to strategise for the upcoming seasons," said Dragons CEO Ryan Webb.

“This arrangement enables the Dragons to focus on refining our Top 30 roster and utilising additional cap space, while Zac can pursue his future endeavours with another club."

Despite this transition, the Dragons anticipate Lomax will continue to play a pivotal role in the 2024 campaign as the team aims for a successful season.

This situation will get thrown out in court and Lomax will be free - however is Lomax willing to spend big $$$ for his freedom.
It’s something I thought when I saw exTiger Lee asking would we want to spend the time and money to fight it. Does Lomax want to spend the money fighting it? No club can help him because that’d be the clearest breach of anti tampering in the history of game

It’s obviously not a like for like situation, still similar enough though I’d say. A broken contract is a broken contract.

29:47 Zac Lomax Talk
I laughed at how his manager Gillis on the podcast said 2 weeks after Zac signed with Parra.

One of the players who wooed him in Gutho was tapped on the shoulder.

Basically it was 6 months not two weeks when Ryles said in mid-october Gutho was free to talk elsewhere.

Talk about trying to rewrite history to make it look like poor Zac got shafted.

Everyone across the game knows Lomax is a serial contract breaker and there is nothing now he can do to shake that reputation in the game

Very different circumstances. Lomax was clearly unhappy with Dragons, his long term club, asked for a release (yes likely after having already negotiated with us), Drags granted it likely fully aware he was coming to us.
With us, he played less than a season, it appears he’s negotiated prematurely with R360, asked for a release, we granted it but only for him to leave NRL, R360 falls through and instead of coming to us and asking we pretend the release ever happened, he asks to go to Scum.
