It is both. He looked shite in first grade because he got few opportunities to run (heaps of opportunity to tackle) but he played ISP to improve his fitness. Except now he’s not playing at all because letting his ribs heal is more important than building match fitness.

There are reasons for a drop in form. Fitness and injury would be the biggest. Old age is another.

Yes, but they’re effectiveness certainly can based on the factors mentioned. In the case of coaching/tactics and a roster change, a decrease in effectiveness can be longer lasting than injury/fitness.
