Rumours and Stuff

Best case I think would be combination of both. He plays hooker in tandem with Mahoney in short term but long term viewed as lock/utility so not to block Mahoney/Schneider.
IMO he isn't as good a hooker as his rep honours suggest he should be. Good ball runner, hits hard in defence, but his service is sub par, decision making is unknown and kicking game mediocre. Although at 22 obviously he should also improve, but if signing him threatened retaining Mahoney or Schneider, I'd pass on Bea Smith
Big call that mate. Neither Mahoney or Schneider could amount to much (obviously hoping I’m wrong here). Smith is already a very good player who is likely to improve further in coming seasons. I’d take him in a heartbeat.

I don't think Smith is a very good hooker. He has good defence (in so much as he only defends in the middle and so really only has to hit hard) but his other top quality, his running game, would probably be negatively impacted behind a lesser pack. His service isn't great and any improvement potential applies to Mahoney and Schneider as well

Good Storm players dont necessarily translate into good performers elsewhere. Im a bit of a fan but we are yet to see what Mahoney and Schnider can do. We need great D/H service and I'm not so sure Smith could provide that. To me hes a more solid and less injury prone Pritchard. Tough as nails for sure though. After all. We are now a development club. Stick with the kids I say.

The fact he might end up a very decent lock is actually another reason I’d love our team to sign him. He’d be our starting hooker and if the other two come on like we hope they do, we suddenly have some real depth and flexability.

Yeah that's what I think the best case scenario would be, unfortunately the things playing against it (Bea Smith's thought on playing lock, Mahoney/Schneider's willingness to wait behind him) are largely unknown

But, we must have at least looked at him.
It's a little no fact but Bernie, BA & O'Neill are actually all completely blind.
Bernie through his own actions.
BA burst all the blood vessels to his eyes after watching a particular inept performance.
And O'Neill through an almost ritualist hari kiri of the eyeballs when he saw how much some of our players were being paid last year
