All I know is Brian Smith knew how to recruit, except high quality halves. He was also a technical footy genius, except his coaching style sucked.

His teams lacked on-field leadership. Whatever good leaders he had couldn't cop him. Tallis and Lyon immediately spring to mind. That lack of leadership hurt us in the big games.

Otherwise, Smith was the master of moneyball. He referred to it as 'coaching up'.

Yes how could I forget, it was my pet peeve with him, I totally agree.

Mind you that guys you mention were young and stupid at the time they couldnt cop him .... but i agree, Smithy's teams always fold at the worst time

Nathan Cayless was our last true captain. Your statement lacks facts so I unfortunately am dismissing it as hot garbage.

Yes and no. I'd rather he got us too the finals and fold then a wooden spoon.
Our 2001 side was ordinary on paper. He plucked B.Drew,Taylor and Beautner who where reserve graders at the time. Maybe not Beautner but anyhows he turned it into one of the best NRL sides to ever watch. We didnt fold in the 2 games getting to grand final.At start of season I was thinking we would not play finals ffs.
I also remember a season when we finished 7th and and won a gane or 2 only to be knocked out by a Brisbane side by 2 points with a team of kids.

Another year we where robbed against Storm when up and Luke Burt had balled ripped out and wasnt given a penatly. It was 14-6 @ time and would of had us on attack with about 18 to go. Instead Storm took ball and scored at end of set to make it 14-12. Changed the game.

Yeah we blew it against Cowboys but Hindmarsh our best player did not play. We should be judging Smith based on predictions at start of season and what happend. 2001 was special and far better then 2009s run.

Do BA sides fold?
I will base it on 2014 when we needed one win to make finals. We had canberra and knights and had the ass end blown out of us by wooden sppon sides
In 2017 we had 2 finals games. A good performance against Storm followed by an embarrasing dual ass end blown out of us by the cowboys.

1/4 and 0/4 wins when sides needed them. That is 0%

Bring Smiths out and id be happy to look at them. I feel like he won quite a few finals games.

I am a realist. I think we can make the top 8. But I am not yet convinced due to two blow outs in 7 games. And I think we have seen BA get the team off to a good start then plateau. We are still not consistent. But hey if your happy with our performances then good on you.

I'm not sure where i said we would make the 8, that we were good this year or consistent?

If anyone needs facts i think it is you tbh.

I'm happy that you don't read any of my posts but the facts are i have zero faith in this club or team to be consistent because it has been so long since it has actually happened and i convey that consistently.

I however will not bag individual players and rarely do because it is a team game and there are so many things that go into a season that can't just be simplified.

I posted facts about OUR team, not the opposition, whereas you did the opposite, you posted facts about the OTHER teams and why THEY lost. There are 2 sides to every argument and you just gave ONE, which happened to be against the team you apparently support.........

I am sure you like the Eels but you brag about the Panthers much, much more than you do about the club you supposedly support.

The Panthers are 2-6, Gould left 2 weeks ago? They won one of their 2 wins at the last moment but you seem to be claiming that they were a much better side 2 weeks ago before Gould left and only now they'll get the spoon?

The reality is that you, like a lot of us post some really good stuff and some really bad stuff but the difference between you and most of us is that you believe everything you post is pure gold and you tell everyone so and then you link it to Penrith and put them on some type of pedestal (at least while Gould was there)...........

I hope Penrith rot like a dirty apple. Sumbags the way they treated the man who resurrected them from the callars.

Yes we also missed guys against Panthers. But does not change fact we have not beaten a respected side. Sharks are my smokies to take the big prize but they where severely weakened against us. Dogs,Panthers,Tigers are rubbish. If we beat Saints and push Storm next week id be more confident in out ability and justificstion t nsign BA. Otherwise you rack up 1.5million and ring the Duke. Then sit back and watch the trophies roll in.
