Disagree. Some of those players can't even crack first grade. Hell, they aren't even dominating reserve grade.
I’ll disagree with Pou too. The players we let go are probably slightly better (having gotten more opportunity elsewhere) but it’s not like Twal or Ryan f**ken Matterson make any difference to our current side. They have no leadership. And I’m turning the blame now on our junior system. And when I say blame, I mean “blame”. It’s produced some high quality players over the decades. The problem is it’s produced to many high quality TEAMs, where young players don’t have to deal with adversity of teams being better than them, of how to produce when your teammates slacken off, of finding fulfilment in the tough, thankless things needed to win a game.
Then all of a sudden you’re getting thrown that pressure at a hundred times faster than anything you saw in juniors, you don’t put in, but now you don’t have 12 other superstars to recover your f**k up and because too many of your teammates have the same upbringing, theres no leadership to get back on track.
I think long term either we have to largely stop supporting juniors (unlikely to happen but really the NSWRL should just take control) or have a shorter term plans, which may mean losing highly touted juniors, but if right at that moment we need a more rounded player then bye bye junior.
Basically my point is a lot of our juniors never learnt to lose, and they’re doing all that learning in 1st grade
