Lane lacking line breaks has pretty much coincided with the injury to Dylan Brown and the discovery that it was going to be a longer term thing.

It was clear when he went down we had fewer points of attack on the edge, and since he's come back he's been struggling a bit for sure.

And I'm not sure even Gorden Tallis would bust the line running off Will Smith tbh

Kikau is one of the few 2nd rowers who makes line breaks these days. It was much easier in Tallis days when you had a lot of smaller guys on the field.
Mjrray,Cordner,Frizzel can break the line. Who else is there that causes havoc every week? There aint many.

Go for your life. Enjoy the ride. If I didnt Id be the only one. Your reference escapes me though. Prior for 2 years max and at a reasonable cost wouldnt compare to Watmough 4 years on a small fortune. Chock also had injury issues when he arrived.
Watmough had no problems playing injured. In his last game for us before surgery he ran for 130 metres. How injured could he have been.

No. Or maybe yes. You can certainly sign them to a longer contract. I can't see why you couldn't sign them to a shorter deal if the player agreed to it......which is the potential stumbling block.
Yeah I suspect it's just about the player agreeing to the release. I doubt he would agree to a loss of money or security, so it comes down to how much the losing and gaining clubs pay, and for how long.

I’m not so sure we do need another strike second rower. We are not lacking for points having the third highest in the comp. Its the preventing of them that’s the issue and I reckon Welch and RCG would instantly transform our pack in that regard. If we can somehow pull this off we could be a serious threat next year.

I’m also liking the make up of our squad with it becoming more top heavy, even if it does mean we lack some depth.

A top 17 of the following would definitely make us a serious threat, although we are lacking one more edge forward to replace Ma'u/Moroea.

1. Gutho
2. Sivo
3. Mennings
4. Blake
5. Fergo
6. Drown
7. Moses
8. Paulo
9. Mahoney
10. Welch
11. Lane
12. Niukore
13. Nrown
14. RCG
15. Evans
16. Kaufusi/Utoikamanu
17. Salmon/Alvaro/Stone

I mean....Welch is a bit of a plodder. I'm not against signing the guy by any means, but he's hardly a massive improvement either.

He's basically going to be an improved Mannah replacement and competing with Alvaro for a spot (assuming he takes up his option).

Just on our need for another edge forward, we definitely need to add one or two more to the squad or we are relying on untested juniors such as Stefano in the event of injuries. Not saying Stefano won't make it but he remains untried in the top grade.

I also reckon we need another hooker, so our remaining spend needs to be focused on Welch, RCG, 2 edge forwards and another hooker. 5 spots to replace Mannah, Ma'u, Moroea, Taka, McKilrick and Gower.

Spot on about going top heavy I reckon. A club on a budget has to take risks to compete with the big spenders.

Do we have potential back ups for fullback or half MJC? Bev gone and hopefully W Smith is run out of town. Do you think Salmon could be an option for both spots?
