Try to work the starters to exhaustion, so they can get used to performing under pressure?

I don’t know.

But our refusal to attack down a strong right edge is baffling - almost to the point where it would seem to be a deliberate ploy...
One thing that's weird is the way we use a lot of shape on the left, with Gutherson out the back, but on the right Moses just seems desperate to give Matterson early ball. When Ferguson put in that kick for Mahoney's no try it was the first time I could remember Gutherson attacking on the right this year. Almost like we had practiced it but only decided to use it when we were desperate.

No but I think it's good enough, or else we wouldn't have the second best defence in the NRL. I'll keep coming back to this. The idea is to win games, and that requires attack and defence. I don't have a problem with our defence. Of course we're going to concede tries, and when we do it'll most likely be around our weakest defender Mitch Moses. Teams organise to generate overlaps on that side, and against an overlap the outside backs can't just "stay on your man, idiot". The outside defenders need to make a decision against superior numbers and it's up to the opposition to read that and make the correct play. If Blake and Ferguson just rigidly mark their man you'll find Moses by himself against a fullback and an edge forward. That would be a disaster a lot more often than what's currently happening.

When Sivo and Jennings scored all their tries this year did you stop and wonder why the opposition defenders let them get outside them?
I’m not really sure how rushing up and grasping at thin air is going to help Moses in defence (who has improved a lot in his own right). I don’t question why the opposition sometimes get outside of Jennings and Sivo. We all know sometimes the opposition is going to score. It’s part of the game and not a defensive issue. I agree that the defence of the team is very good for the most part. Doesn’t mean it can’t be better. Our attack was very good last season so it’s rather perplexing as to why it’s not better when we have even more dominance in the forwards.

Because even when he misses it disrupts the attack and gives the cover defenders time to sort their shit out. Support runners need to stop and get back onside of the ball carrier and so on.

Yes noticed that also, nearly always attacks on the left with long cut out passes. Maybe can't pass left to right?

Or maybe the issue with Moses is worse than we thought.

He should be rested until 100% for the finals.

All our lives as players/coaches we are taught or teach to not run out of the defensive line, as it only creates disruptions to the defensive team. Yet you think it’s beneficial and have found positives....

It's good advice for kids but first grade features professional athletes who have the fitness to use compressed defences, which are necessary for the wrestle. The way edge defence works in a compressed defence is very different to amateur footy. When there's an overlap you can't just slide, especially on your line.

I assume kids are still taught to tackle around the waist or legs, which we know isn't the preferred method in first grade.

They do it all the time in union
They've been doing it in league since at least the 90s, when it was referred to as attacking 'upside down': inside the red zone teams would run their huge forwards out wide and their nippy runners in the middle. It's so commonplace now that it doesn't even have a name.

It's a natural extension of the fact that a mismatch favours the attacker.

How about we take Addo-Carr from the Storm and offer them either Ferguson or Sivo in return?

There is only one person I know who could pull off such a bold transfer swap, involving complex negotiations.
