EELS EYE UP AND COMING BULLDOG

Parramatta are keeping a close eye on promising Bulldogs forward Matt Doorey.

The 20-year-old is on a development contract with Canterbury for 2021, but The Daily Telegraph reports the Eels are keen on bringing him across from 2022 onwards.

Doorey made his NRL debut in Round 14 under interim coach Steve Georgallis. He showed very promising signs in the six games he played before suffering a PCL injury.

It’s understood though that the Bulldogs will fight to keep the Australian School boy and NSW under 20s forward.

My concern is that if his knees are shot, then no matter how much he tries or wants to knuckle down and turn things around, he wont be able to.

So I will reserve my judgement on him till we see how his injuries and training pan out, not to mention his attitude of course.

really?...

I’m more concerned about some of the players in our squad that are getting paid a little more than he is...but that’s just me.

Here you go:

In the chapter titled ‘The Damage Done’ Smith reveals he routinely made sacrifices for the club after being told the Storm were under salary cap pressure to keep it’s star-studded roster together.

He writes he accepted deferred payments. The promise of future payments has been outlawed in the NRL since 2010 when the Storm’s cap scandal erupted.

It's not clear that he's actually admitting to anything in contravention of the cap. He could simply be referring to willingness to increase back-ending in contract renewals. Who knows.
