I would say that development has its own momentum and just looking at schoolboys upwards, we have quite a number (dozens) of potential first graders.

Employees come and go. Footy is like any other business. Hopefully someone can step in and do a good job now

You have a pool of kids. The good ones stand out. The bigger the pool the larger the chance you get some good ones. There is the odd one who slips through the crack.
I reckon some would be pot luck. But also learning to avoid what guys are dominating due to hitting puberty earlier or on the flip side which ones will make it once they full develop.

The real good ones though would not go unoticed.

I imagine it’s a balance between treating it as a business but also exhibiting patience and recognising that some players develop differently than others.

I reckon there has probably been a heap of future NRL players that never got their because they weren’t in the system for long enough.

It’s probably not financially sustainable anymore but having a proper 2nd grade would assist.

Believe Brendan Rodgers, who was Souffs list manager is now doing a lot of recruitment issues across all grades and Isaac DeGois has been charged with junior identification and has a bigger role than previously.

To be fair, they're not shit due to lack of quality youngsters. They have the best crop of under 22s in the comp. They're shit because they only had eight dudes with 100+ NRL games and four of those were over the hill.

Anthony Field has moved into a different role, had been offered player development positions at more than other club, understand he is now in player management which would be a great for his skill set.

No doubt some will post stupid comments, but at times that's what this blog does, usual posters it seems.
