Rumours and Stuff

I will be the odd one out and say I thought the club statement about how contract stuff is going a bit odd .... I don't think its terrible or anything, just odd

it basically details how we don't want things to play out in the media etc ..... so what do we do, make a media statement - lol

if you are content with how you are going and not worried about the perception of outsiders with no clue about what is going on, then just keep going about what you are doing

as I said, I think its ok they did it, just a bit weird and unexpected
It was aimed at the fans to calm the f**k down. Interesting that we re-signed the one who seemed most likely to leave too.

He was signed at Penrith up until 2024
That doesn't mean they agreed to subsidise his next contract for the entire five years. Part of the release would have been a negotiation of a payout. There's no rule saying it has to be an annual payment for the length of the previous deal. It just has to benefit both parties for them to agree to end the existing contract.

I bumped into someone on your board when he was drunk. He couldn't stand Phil Gould. Said you where paying 250k for 3yrs for RCY and also money for Waqa for his first 2yrs.
That’s right next year will be his third with you blake has done his two years so we only pay for RCG next year not after that

Or BA knows that his personal strength is developing forwards and that we have a large number of young outside backs and a few hookers coming through and to best develop them it is best to get experience in those areas. Moreso if it is not your strength.

Don't BA bash just for the sake of it mate. You're better than that.
Well qudos to BA if it was initiated by him. Its not easy to admit you need help and even harder to ask for it. Im glad he is being well supported. Im loving the appointments. Never bashing mate. Just different interpretations. Lets hope that all 5 of our coaches can lead us to the promised land.

Wouldn't the Penrith payout be independent of the Eels contract(s)?

That would be strange. Once the player fails to take up the option, that contract is dead (well, it's dead at end of 2022). He could just go and play in Kempsey if he chose or open a laundrette. The Eels obligations to him for 2023 onwardrs ceased once he chose to terminate the existing contract, and I would imagine that the Panthers obligations to the Eels disappear at the same time. I can't see how it work any other way (unless somebody in the game is really stupid).

So RCG was intent on doing The Pennys a huge favour. What a nice bloke.

Well, I guess it is possible that someone could have inserted a clause along the lines 'if the Eels re-sign RCG within 30 days of him letting the option lapse......' but I doubt it (based on the available descriptions of the contract.....and we are just relying on what we can get from the media). It's not even clear to me whether Panthers were ever on the hook for his 2023 salary anyway.

I'm not talking about our obligations at all though. My point is our previous (and current) contracts had nothing to do with RCG's contract termination with the Panthers, other than to help determine how much he was willing to accept from them. That amount had to come off Penrith's cap, so they would have negotiated an annual payment that worked for them. Meanwhile what we offered the player was between him and us, and had nothing to do with the Panthers, other than him being willing to (probably) accept less due to the concurrent payout amount he would be receiving from them.

So......if RCG left for the Dolphins in 2023, the Panthers would still be paying us $XX in that year (and thus $XX of our cap in that year)?? Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point (or assumptions).
