Just to qualify a couple of things you stated (and I will say up front that I am never happy when we finish less that premiers), however:It’s depressing reading this thread and realizing so many of our supporters believe making the top 4 or top 8 for a few years is the definition of success.
In other sport such as Football, Motor racing, even cricket for that matter, it’s fair to have lower expectations than outright first, if you are underfunded, a developing team etc. But in a sport where the Eels have a major Junior nursery, are well funded by a successful leagues club, have the most or second most number of members in the comp, have an elite training facility/center of excellence and are on a level playing field to the rest of the comp as a result of the salary cap, how can anyone objectively argue that finishing between 4 and 8 every year is success?
So you're saying we're a chance...Just to qualify a couple of things you stated (and I will say up front that I am never happy when we finish less that premiers), however:
- our major junior nursery is worthless if we dont have the proper structures in place to bring players through and it was ignored from basically 2010 to 2015/16. If you look at where kids that were under 14/15's were when we shifted some of our clubs focus back to junior development, they are now only reaching the age where they will start popping up in first grade;
- the success of the leagues club and it's ability to fund the NRL side is actually limited to an extent by the NRL's soft cap on Football Club expenditure. Sure there are some small benefits available, but those need to be spend on longer term things like the CoE and not annual costs like operations/staff/etc. This softcap is actually there to make it a more level playing field for all clubs, regardless of how wealthy their owners are;
- Kellyville Park is far from an elite training centre with all the facilities being run out of demountables at present, including the gym the players use on a daily basis. It is an improvement on previous training facilities but dont get confused with what we dont yet have.

- the salary cap is obviously an attempt to level the playing field for player talent, however TPA's and other opportunities still exist that we dont seem to have (such as one-team-towns/golf bets/cheap housing development/etc).
So, while I agree that consistenly making the top 4 or top 6 is not the "success" we would all like, when you consider that there are few teams out there that haven't done this for a while, it is still a reasonable achievement.
And besides, the chances of winning the comp after round 25 if you arent in the top 8 are ZERO.
At least being in the top 8, we are still in with a fight come each September.
Yeah I think much the same. Barrett had a whinge at Manly about their facilities and Des comes back and it's magically a non issue.Does lifting weights in a gym in a modular building put us at a disadvantage to those who lift weights in a permanent structure?
I would say not, but if not, why does everyone want a CoE with the best gym facilities... might be more about recovery options (ice baths, saunas, massage set up, etc) than just the weights though.Does lifting weights in a gym in a modular building put us at a disadvantage to those who lift weights in a permanent structure?
I agree with this. When Matto was on the bench he brought this in.I think the biggest problem is that when Jr goes off we bring one forward that is one dimensional and doesn't have an offload.
Kaufusi runs hard and makes the Meters but by the time he comes on we should be at the stage where 2nd phase plays come into the game.
We need more ball playing forwards on the bench that can take advantage of tired players.
Same as a reserve hooker.
That can all easily be done in modular setups. Which recovery items are we currently missing out on?I would say not, but if not, why does everyone want a CoE with the best gym facilities... might be more about recovery options (ice baths, saunas, massage set up, etc) than just the weights though.
A nice kiosk area for lunch.That can all easily be done in modular setups. Which recovery items are we currently missing out on?
I see what you did there. You took a cheeky post by me where I was taking the piss on @hineyrulz ‘s 24/7 shit talking the club and flipping it to me being content with just being top 8. Which is total rubbish and only makes you and everyone who liked your post, look like fools.It’s depressing reading this thread and realizing so many of our supporters believe making the top 4 or top 8 for a few years is the definition of success.

I miss the EnforcerThat can all easily be done in modular setups. Which recovery items are we currently missing out on?
24/7 shit talking the club???? I do sleep merkin!!! As opposed to you defending the club 24/7 no matter what??? It works both ways. Good to see sheriff gronk is back telling us all how we should think and feel.I see what you did there. What grates my gears is that there are half a dozen posters on this forum who can’t bring themselves to enjoy a win and anyone who does, gets criticised for accepting mediocrity.
News Flash: it’s quite normal to be supportive of a footy team in a dedicated footy fan forum. You guys are the outliers.
I reckon that some you have lost the love for the game and the club.
You are so focused on being a team that dominates the rest, that you can’t saviour those small moments of joy that supporting a team and going to the footy brings.
Yes you can be aspirational, but we’ve played some great footy this year and I doubt the die hard negative Nancys who particularly inhabit this thread, would admit that ever.
I hope some of you to get to enjoy your footy soon.
Whose job is it to change the structure and which structure should they adopt? From what I read on here the only change anyone cares about is sacking the coach for just about any other coach.Under the current structure I agree.
It presents a recruiting disadvantage compared to clubs that have expensive, established facilities.Does lifting weights in a gym in a modular building put us at a disadvantage to those who lift weights in a permanent structure?
Don't the Titans currently have a state of the art COE??? It's doing wonders for them.That can all easily be done in modular setups. Which recovery items are we currently missing out on?
Is it though? Under Hasler they are still following each finals year with a year outside the top eight.Yeah I think much the same. Barrett had a whinge at Manly about their facilities and Des comes back and it's magically a non issue.
Perhaps the club’s location works against them from a recruiting perspective.Don't the Titans currently have a state of the art COE??? It's doing wonders for them.

Maybe when recruiting certain players and juniors are drawn to better facilities.Does lifting weights in a gym in a modular building put us at a disadvantage to those who lift weights in a permanent structure?
But in terms of our current squad’s ability to train / recover?It presents a recruiting disadvantage compared to clubs that have expensive, established facilities.
