Jeez we really need to try and sign Suaalii now if we want to get someone that is truly elite into our squad. The kid is available right now and can be bought if we gave him the money and had the right people to convince him we are the club for him.
We can also promise him the fullback position immediately and he can play with one of his best mates and be much closer to his family and friends.
Yeah sure the current coach is a bit of a handbrake but he will soon be just a memory so he won't have to worry about that.
He is also the type of player that if he eventually got to big and a little slower, that you can move to the centres and or backrow. He played those positions at junior level. He could turn into a Gene Miles type of player from that point of view.
Sadly we have MON as the negotiating turtle clown that would have no idea how to catch a big fish like him. Players like him need a lot of money, hype and love. You need to be able to sell the dream and wax lyrical to the point that the player is almost begging to be part of your club and wants to sign. Getting a new coach sooner rather then later would also help.
I think if we had Ciraldo as head coach he would be a better selling option then BA, who is known as a solid coach, but hardly someone that can take a super star players game to another level or two. Ciraldo has worked with a few of the most impressive young talent in the NRL and players talk. They would all know what Ciraldo brings to the table as far as coach-player connection, engagement and knowledge.
Boy do we need to make a few changes, just a few, but significant ones. I hope when we limp into the finals, if we make them, that we can go all the way, but my brain knows that we will be lucky to win two games in a row, if we play two teams that are on their game and come at us hard. Winning a 3rd or 4th one under that scenario is virtually impossible for this lot at present. We failed dismally to bring a quality forward into out 17 to relieve our two props and give them some rest during games and save them from burnout.
Now we have just the rotation that we all know just isn't up to it consistently. Sure we will put in a great showing for a game or two, but consistency starts up front and we just don't have the bench to keep the rage going and we don't have a superstar Suaalii type that can turn a game on its head in the blink of an eye that can demoralize our opponents. So everyone needs to work extra hard for the entire game.
So in conclusion, No matter how we go bar a GF appearance at the very least, BA has to be given his marching orders, a new coach brought in and Suaalii made a priority signing, hopefully by someone other then MON who in my book needs to go and the sooner the better. When we first brought him in, it was what was needed, to rein in the expenses that had gotten out of control.
But just as coaches, who can't progress the team much further, I feel MON has done his dash and now we need someone that isn't just looking for the bargain basement player. There seems to be a problem with him in doing deals in a timely manner and I don't think having a argumentative tight arse at the helm trying to do deals with superstar player managers is going to get you to far.
I believe that not many managers around the traps like doing deals with him. Sure that is a sign that he is a tough bastard to deal with, but that only works if you have something to sell that someone wants to buy. Parra is hardly that. There are other suitors out there that he needs to realise will go higher. Sure he obviously shouldn't overpay just because a more desperate club is willing to. But for the right player big bucks are what are needed. Or in a couple of instances with both Mahoney and Papalii he was way to slow out of the blocks and he then tried to low ball them and look how that turned out.
From where I am standing he wouldn't have a clue how to land a big fish like Suaalii and a big fish is what we need. Suaalii is a complete Moby Dick white whale. We need to be able to bring players like him to our club when we need them and they are available, just like the Roosters do or at least until we can start to produce them like we used to do.
Which, if we are really lucky and N. Brown actually knows what he is doing and can identify all our shortcomings and then we are smart enough to implement his recommendations and improve the quality of the people around the joint, then we may start to once again. But even if it all goes well and to plan, it won't start to bare fruit for at least 5-10 years from now.
So in the meantime we need to see if we can bring someone like Suaalii in that can have a major positive influence on our club both on and off the field. He would also make Parra a much more attractive place to come to for other players too. He would become the face of the club and a sponsors dream. Which of course, nudge, nudge, wink, wink, we should be able to find plenty of them for him to top up his salary. The new bigger, and better Parra CBD can only be a plus now a days, surely? I mean we are the only team in the area and even carry the name of the city ffs. Big businesses in Parra has us and no one else. We need to be able to take advantage of that.
Anyway, Jeez, I wasn't intending on writing all that, It was meant to be a short 'we need to sign Suaalii' rant and yet, here we are. Hahaha...
