If they hadnt made public the fact they had been chasing him, then they would be labelled incompetent for not chasing him... and so they make it public and are labelled incompetent. Always Loose/Loose for the Eels hey.
Like I said, if Bennett really was interested in the Eels, it would mean our roster wasn't too old. But every club has to deal with ageing rosters at times. It's part of the squad life cycle. Clubs with better resourcing get through it quicker. Some clubs are lucky to make the finals at all.

Sure, I am not saying I would have announced it either. I am just saying that for the last 2 weeks they have been called incompetent for not even chasing him. Then when we find out they have been, they are called incompetent anyway.
Probably dosent matter to the new coach but he will know he was second choice at best.
If its a face saving exercise that impresses nobody moving forward.
Hopefully its all a smokescreen and WB signs tomorrow.

They’d already said they were not interested publicly so never had to mention Bennett again. It’s not like he was going to bring it up.

It’s stupidity to publicly announce you tried for 18 days to sign someone and they said no.

It’s like saying “we suck at our jobs” out loud.
Well we wouldn’t be the first to miss out on Bennett. Others have come closer and missed him.
As has been said by others, if they sacked BA and it appeared we never even approached super-coach, the pitchforks would be out.
Flipside; our next coach will forever be labelled ‘Eels 2nd choice coach after failing to land Bennett’.

No, it just means Souths are a bigger club. The proof is in their results since they got access to Crowe's resources.

No he was wrong. He said Davey was pissed for not making the side. But he started the year injured, missed a month of footy, and after two games in reserve grade he was elevated to the NRL side. The he came to Parra.
I happened to meet Willie Mason, who was on the bulldogs coaching staff, at about the time that was blowing up. What you said might be true but Willie also said Davey was being out-trained and out played.
Whatever the truth, I like that Graham speaks his mind, unlike other ex-players.

Willie is a grub.

At the 2022 GF I was at a NRL corporate function at the game and all he did on stage was bag off the parra fans up there on stage and the club before the match.

It was truly a disgrace from an NRL official function for a paid guest speaker to be taking potshots at fans was disgraceful becasue of who they support.

Sterlo was also on stage did his best to be diplomatic. But Mason was a downright disgrace.

Well he debuted at 27 ffs. He's hardly a star. I doubt he expected to be treated like one at a club with Kikau on the books. But when you say you want out of a club because you've witnessed bullying and abuse, merkins who are there will make shit up about you to protect themselves.

Agreed. But I also know a woman who's had a very negative series of interactions with him. He is a douche.

Interesting we admitted to talking to Bennett. Not like the club in recent years as they like to keep things close to their chest. I'd say this was an arse covering exercise "see we are doing our job!".

I don't care, as long as we get the right result. BA did a lot for the club, but his time was well and truly up.

Dead right as usual.

The chairman saying we have resources is proof you were right about us not having resources.

keep on educating the ignorant parrramatta bogans
Him saying we have resources is about as much proof as him saying we weren't interested in Wayne Bennett. You need to understand how media works, you bogan.

THE SHATTERING CALL
Arthur will receive around a $750,000 payout after club chair Sean McElduff and CEO Jim Sarantinos broke the news to the shattered head coach.

“It’s a decision you never like to deliver upon anyone, but to Brad’s credit, he took as best you could imagine,’’ Sarantinos said.

“It was time for us to move in a different direction as a club and now we’ll move forward with the process of finding the next head coach of the Parramatta Eels.

“We won’t rest now. We think there’s a lot of appeal to our roster. We think there’s a lot of appeal for our club, in terms of our scale, our size, our resources that we can provide to support the coach.

“Whether that is the job for an established coach, one that has had a track record of success or a young emerging coach, we’ll go through that entire process.

“We’ll search high and low for the perfect selection right across the rugby league landscape here and overseas.’’

Now It's confirmed we have resources, I think Pou should apply.
