To be fair if he stays fit and on the field, he will be invaluable to the DragQueens. He is the exact type of player they need.

If they can keep Gutho, Cook and Holmes motivated they'll be more than competitive.
Well he has only missed 3 games through injury in 6 years since his ACL which is incredible really. When you compare him to every other fullback he is streaks ahead on availabilty.

But how many games has he played injured a lot i reckon.

The question is though how much toll has that taken on his body. Similar to Watmough who barely missed a game at Manly but arrived here busted after playing injured for a long time

Clearly our medical team had confidence moving forward he didnt have much left.

In a way him going for such a big money contract is a reward for the blood, sweat & pain he has put himself through for this club.

My Dragons mate just messaged me this contract will make or break Flanagan's tenure there. If Gutho is broken down after 6 months its going to cripple them for 2 x years.

Can they afford not to take risks?

Will wait to hear from some sections of the media how we disrespected Gutho by not offering him the same deal.

With our aging roster - our pack being mostly 30+ and with Sivo and Gutherson getting towards the end , it would have been negligent to offer Gutho a similar deal.

Sure if Gutho and Rcg were our only close to retirement players, we could have done something, but when half of your team is over 30, it not in the best interests looking forward. Ryles hands were tied essentially.

Not really. He is only with us for one year and there are plenty who think that one year of Gutho experience would be very handy.

If we land a big fish with his coin, then maybe it is justified. Fox ? Hmm dunno.
Letting Gutho go one year early is a huge risk, but seemingly a risk the new Head Coach is prepared to take.

Another season like our last and I suspect both of our halves will follow him out the door. Where are we then?

Without our halves?

We all hope so, but it still doesn't get away from the fact that replacing your Captain and 200 odd NRL game veteran and spiritual leader with a player with 1 NRL game in a spine position is a huge risk.
Unless your suggestion is that we extend Gutherson beyond next year, then this was a problem that was inevitable and nigh anyway...in that case, I think this risk is more than acceptable.

To replace Moses with someone as comparable I suspect would cost us considerably more than we'll pay Moses.
Love Mitch but I don't think he is underpaid - in fact, I would venture that a comparable replacement would probably cost less than Mitch as, by Isaac Moses economics, Mitch will always be paid at the top of his bracket.....the trick is finding someone comparable to Mitch - thats the real problem
