Anyone who thinks Hastings has a higher ceiling then hunt is kidding themselves. Hunt is one of the best all round halfbacks with an excellent passing, kicking and running game and a great organiser. Hastings has shown some skills but he has also shown he can overplay his hand and has fairly poor decision making. I think he could be a top half but i doubt he'll ever surpass Hunt.

Hunt's long kicking game is very average, his defence is solid and his short kicking game is very good. His running game is his strength but when you think we may nab Hastings for around 250-300k or hunt for 800k it's an easy decision IMO and it's not not Hunt.

Especially of the Roosters pay some of his 2017 salary.

I reckon Hunt & Hastings both have similar ceilings, but Hastings has a much lower basement. This and their respective levels of age, experience & proven skill are the reasons for the salary discrepancies

Well ideally that's what we'd have. This would allow for a bench of wicks, Edwards, Vave and Alvaro or using Taka off the bench instead of Alvaro if Guth doesn't play in the halves.

De Gois and Kaysa can be backups and if either aren't happy with that they can look elsewhere.
It depends how much they're contracted for. I'm sure we wouldn't be happy with two backup hookers on top 17 money.

Hunt wasn't even a regular NRL halfback until the year he turned 24. Hardly a sign of a high ceiling.

Hunt was still just an under 20's player at Hastings age, Hunt is pretty much as good as he will get. Hastings you would think can only get better, his only worry is his attitude but if BA does sign him i would back him and the coaching staff to get this bloke right.

Seriously, Lichaa is a rubbish footballer and will go down as one of the worst signings I can remember on the deal he's currently on with the Bulldogs, especially given what Ennis has done since. I'd ask serious questions if we were even remotely interested in him as a club. Sure, he makes a bunch of tackles, but so did Matt Keating. He offers absolutely nothing in attack apart from chucking the footy to a man mountain close to the line a couple of times for a "try assist" and he's not as tough a defender as De Gois. Keating is a good comparison actually, Lichaa is very similar. Or maybe Matt Srama. At least De Gois is heavily involved in leading the defensive line, for all his other faults. Lichaa is much more of a "come to me" tackler, less experienced, probably more expensive, pretty much exactly as ordinary in attack...one of the most anonymous footballers I've ever seen, you'd barely know he's on the field.

Cronk and DCE weren't regular halfbacks until 22.
Hunt debut as a 19 year old at halfback then spent his early years as a utility/hooker behind Lockyer, the current NSW halfback in Wallace and Prince but dont let a good story get in the way of the truth. Also in 2012 and 2013 he spend a good portion of the year at five-eight and halfback. So as a 22 and 23 year old he played in the halves regularly and always looked like a quality player.

What makes you think Lichaa is on big money? I reckon they replaced Ennis with him due to salary cap pressure and a view to the future.

You're the one telling the story, merkin. I just gave you the fact that he wasn't a regular half until the year he turned 24. Prior to that he was a bench utility.

I think there's a fair difference between a young player of 22 and one of 24 - the latter has been a full time professional footballer for about twice as long. It's a big difference.

Anyway, not saying I don't rate Hunt - he is a good footballer. But he is not a natural playmaker, he is manufactured. At 26 he is pretty much at his peak. Cronk won Dally M halfback of the year before he had turned 23 and DCE had won a premiership at the same age.

  • Beau Scott once walked into an Oporto and ordered a Big Mac and he damn well got one.
  • The boogeyman checks under his bed for Beau Scott.
  • Beau Scott has looked a gift horse in the mouth. He then gave it an uppercut. This would later be known as the origin of the giraffe.
  • It is rumoured that Beau Scott's tears can cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.
  • Beau Scott and Chuck Norris have never been seen in the same room. Coincidence? Hardly. Norris is scared shitless at the prospect of being in the same room as Scott.

Where did I say he was on big money? He's on 300-400k at the Dogs by all reports. It doesn't have to be huge money to be overs....
