So if Hoppa's money is included in our cap over 3 years it works out to be about 125k each year for 3 years which would be top 25 money. I wonder if we might distribute it unevenly taking a bigger hit for a year or two so that for 1 or even 2 years it becomes closer to minimum (around 80k) thus not effecting our top 25 cap.

eg. If BA thinks we aren't a realistic chance of winning the comp next year and we have room we include 170k in our cap which would mean less of a hit the following years- when we might have a more realistic chance of winning the comp

Regardless of the outcome, i am confident that the club (Max) would have had some pretty clear idea of the treatment likely by the NRL of any payout to Hoppa, whether settled out of court or court directed. Just because it wasn't leaked doesn't mean the club didn't know.

Max would have then made a decision based on whether he thought we would win the case or not and how much we would be likely to spend (legal fees and damages) if we didn't win.

because he decided to pay him out rather than go to court and fight Hoppa saying we don't owe him shit just because it was the cheaper option

Do we even know if the matter went to court that the outcome (cap wise) was going to be different ? I don't recall anything other than journos speculation that it would or would not effect our cap.

I think its a fair outcome ... of all the f**ked up shit our club did, i still think this was the worst .... the amount is probably enough compensation for one year of f**king hoppa over - we hampered his getting a decent contract for a year .... he's digging his own grave now with his sundays thing

I wish it wasnt on our cap, but maybe we should consider ourselves lucky???

Agree. Remember also that the one off payment is not an admission of guilt. $370k is a far cry from what he was originally seeking.

Hopoate was to be paid $630,000 in 2016, $660,000 in 2017 and $690,000 in 2018

So for us to pay him only $123k x 3 years, he's only getting 18% of the original contract consideration.

Sometimes you need to pay merkins something to make it go away, even if you feel that you are 100% in the right. I've had to do that it the past. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but best in the long run commercially.

It was definitely the worst thing I reckon. Just a real dick move. And the punishment is probably fair enough too, although I hope Max didn't choose to settle in order to save money.

So you reckon having Hopoate on our cap is a good outcome? Do you want to f**ken win games or save money, merkin?
Was Max the f**kwit that signed Hoppa on crazy overs and then pulled the offer from him when they realised it would have completely f**ked up our cap after the Foran contract came to light???

Blame the former board and the clown CEO they hired who were willing to anything just to get elected for two more years. How do you know this wasn't the best outcome for the club??? How do you know that Max wasn't told it wouldn't count against the cap only for our mate #powerhouse Todd to completely change his mind??? It's laughable that you try and blame the bloke trying to clean up the mess by the former board of absolute f**kwits. But that's right it's not their fault at all it's the all the members fault anyway

And maybe if we lost the whole lot would of lumped on our cap which would of killed us for the next 3 years??? None of us know what Max was told but I trust he would
Of made the best choice for the club. Unlike the previous lot of f**ktards who were only worried about themselves.

Parramatta is fast becoming the second sydney.
Afl realise this and have taken advantage of the situation and now GWS are flying.
Then you have the A league and going off crowds and members the wanderers are a huge success so far.

NRL are shooting themselves in the foot. They need a strong Parramatta. There are to many Sydney clubs but based on areas - Parramatta followed by Penrith campbeltown and Bankstown is where rugby league is at.These are the teams in Sydney you want to keep strong.
Not sure why the NRL would really want to punish what is their biggest weapon and drawcard. Strange to say the least. They continue to persist with the storms and the titans but how many juniors are they producing?
Who ever is in charge of marketing the nrl should be getting into someones ear

125k a season is a decent blow in a tight comp. Replace one of your 250k players with a 125k player.
Morgan for a taka/gutherson
Gower for a KE
Alvaro for a Brown

So you think the NRL should determine punishments / cap treatment of players based on whether there's an AFL threat?

I've said from Day 1 that the Hoppa situation was likely to end up in us having to pay him and for that expenditure to count towards the cap......I was given a serious of progressively changing explanations as to why I was was wrong. 125K a season is about as good as we were likely to get out of this situation.
