There is some mind reading that no one else has attempted to address: Does Peats himself want to come back to Parramatta, the club who did the wrong thing by him? From my sources (I actually have one) I can tell you that he would probably prefer to stay with his Origin partner Hayne. I'd say he cares more about the Titans now than a magical reunion with the Eels. Everyone however has their price so Pou is right, he will be top dollar.
he did but don't know if still does

He's approaching Kyle and Chase Stanley levels of injury prone-ness.....
Another player of concern is Tim Mannah, he appears to be taken off for a HIA every match. This must be a worry for the club, we don't want Tim in another few years time sitting in a corner with a blank look on his face dribbling into his drink. Sorry Tim got you mixed up with Pou!

Maybe NRL should have policy that if a player goes off for 2 HIAs in 2 matches he sits out the next week.

I understand the NRL has a policy that if a player FAILS 3 consecutive HIA's (in 3 weeks) they are required to sit out a week.

Interesting.. not a lot of 'leading' off contract players.
And how does cutting the hush money off his contract impact the club's salary cap? Is he in the cap for the full value, or had the club profited in the cap by reducing his value?

More drugs drama for the game

One of the NRL’s leading off contract players got into some strife involving cocaine recently - and his club had to pay off someone threatening to take camera phone footage to the media.

But the club had the last laugh over the renowned bad boy, cutting the amount they had to pay to sweep the incident under the carpet from his upcoming contract.

The player isn’t happy - but has had to cop it sweet.

Let's think about it Einstein. If the club is worried about someone finding out about their player using cocaine, then surely they might also be worried about the NRL integrity unit finding out and suspending their player (in which case it would be all revealed).
So I seriously doubt they have filed an application to the NRL to plead for a reduction in the cap-hit of their 'leading off contract player' due to a fine issued for drug use cover up.....

The rumour there is that this club basically told the player the cover up money was coming out of their remaining salary. Which, yes, is illegal, and the player can complain publically, or to the NRL - but then the cocaine thing comes out, and they are suspended without pay and fined by the club anyway...

The way I read it is that his new contract is less the amount they paid to make the issue go away. So nothing illegal, good luck really for the club, a bit like when we got Corey a bit cheaper after his shenanigans.

Is it illegal to pay someone to not do something - i.e. not send video footage to the media?

IDK. Possibly, but the club could easily say that they just bought it, the same as any media org would have done. I'm not sure about the privacy issues though.

Whatever club it was aren't getting very good value for money though because obviously someone found out.

It's not illegal to fine the player which is really all they've done. "We were going to re-sign you for 500k but we have had to pay 100k to keep your head off the back page of the the Tele so now it's 450k over two years." Of course it's less legal if they used it as blackmail to sign the lesser deal....

Not sure how legal covering up a criminal act is though....lol

Didnt I say what you said!?! Illegal to just take their money and pay for a cover up. But call it a fine and all is sweet.
Good news is that we know it isnt an Eels issue because we would have recorded the whole thing. The recording would, of course, have started with 'Don't worry mate, it isnt on'

It's not a fine though OMC, it's less on the new contract. The club isn't going to short pay the existing contract.
