Coach - Shane Flanagan

Till RCG and Mattomis back Hipgrave and Matakota in the 17.
All of a sudden you have a fast fullback, two strong and reasonably big athletic wingers and targets for the bomb.
Two centres who are very strong and dangerous runners of the ball. 2nd rowers who can offload and break the line.
A mobile lock who can go 80mins.
God dam punch of the bench. A bench that sides no will be as hard or harder to handle then what have had to swallow for first 20 mins.

My only other suggestion is if wants W.Smith on bench then Russel is blooded. No more Sivo. No more Opacic. We have superior options.

There that makes it just about right. Oh and the Russell idea for the Smith one is better I think.

I would sack the coach right now this Monday morning and appoint Flanno immediately.

I mean we all know that the season is over for this playing group as things stand, so why not do something that may or may not reap some positive results.

We all know that we will just keep crashing and burning from here on in. BA and his ideas have now officially been rendered useless and ineffective going forward. So what's the point in continuing on with him at the helm? It is bloody hard getting to where we have and in the top 8, so why just give that away for another season without a fight if possible?

It would allow us to maybe perform a little better in the semis and show some fight. That experience alone is worth money in the bank down the track for future seasons. It wouldn't cost much more at all boning BA now and appointing Flanno immediately instead of waiting till the end of the season. It also wouldn't affect contract signings adversely and actually may improve them somewhat after our performances of late. I'm sure players are beginning to have doubts about BA now both in and outside the club.

Is this a radical reaction, yeah sure, but what is the alternative? Let him ride it out till the bitter end, why? He is now in a total meltdown period at the club. We need to save not only our season, but the psychological damage it is doing to the players themselves and their careers. If this keeps going and it will, some of these players will never recover to where they were or what their full potential could have been and a lot of them are still on our books. Also it isn't that easy or cheap trying to bring in quality, especially if the club is on the nose all of a sudden.

This is not an overreaction to just one game, but a reaction to when you know you have early cancer and if you react swiftly and decisively, you have a good chance to save the host without too much damage. We have seen this movie before and we know how it ends if we do nothing. I say, lets try and salvage something from THIS season and not wait for another offseason to start again. A knew voice in the dressing room might be enough to reignite this listless lot that have obviously run out of steam under the current head coach.

Not saying that we will win it if we make this change now, but we may just halt the rot and stop embarrassing ourselves to this level. Right now we are a laughing stock to not only the fans of RL, but to sponsors and all the players within the game. This is not a good thing for our club on many levels. Why wait when there is another good option. We all know that BA is cooked. Lets just make it official now.
The other advantage of boning BA now is that we’d be getting in there before other clubs decide to replace their coach, increasing demand for Flanno and potentially missing out on him.

Not sure I would vote for Flanno, but there aren’t many alternatives. One thing I do know is he thinks the club is more than a sleeping giant. Believes they are more Ghan that.

He played and coached at the Eels, and whilst employed elsewhere I’ve seen him at Eels pre season games and spoke to him,he is definitely interested and keen.

At a minimum there should be new assistants and structures, the personnel is far too good to get smashed as has happened. Loyalty and being stubborn to change could see possibly the most passionate local coach we have had , out the door .

Nathan Himdmarsh rated Flanagan highly when he was with us and was coached by him in the lower grades. If he came he would be with us long term and he would definitely be my first choice. Besides all the unproven rhetoric he knows the game well and is a very good recruiter and identifier of talent. I think the whole squad would be overhauled with him in charge.

If I had to go for another rookie I’d look into Ciraldo but he could easily turn into another Garth Brennan and fail.

I like it but with Matto and RCG not available i would run with this side until they are available and then work it out from there

I Remember a few years ago after Sharks lost a game he articulated very well why, how etc they lost.
They had not executed the game plan. Yes he has shown he has a good read of the game, can attract talent and would bring his own people in. I know that with Elkin there was drama there but the club needs to pull the trigger on who will be the coach going forward.
I have been a season ticket holder for 22 years straight. This is not a threat but if Arthur is coach, with the same playing and coaching personnel I won't renew. 6 tickets not renewed. In grand scheme of things the club wont give 2 sh*ts about me not renewing however if others start doing the same it will have a flow on effect...
You can only stomach so much.

Flanno by far is the best available candidate. He is no mug in getting a team to play well and to its strengths. He knows how a good junior development system should look like. Can and has retained/recruited well. Has many quality friends in the media and the coaching ranks that he can call upon. Has won a premiership already, so we all know he can get you there. And as a bonus, being in the media at present he has shown he is articulate and can dissect a game very well, so players will be stimulated and will learn and grow under his coaching.

All these attributes are brilliant characteristics to have as a head coach and as an extra bonus, he is a Parra man at heart who sees us as the white whale that needs to be caught and probably his greatest challenge as a coach that has eluded so many others for 35 years now.

Make it happen Parra management. NOW!!! This week ffs!

Overhaul is needed, Manly had 6 Parra juniors in their team, and Keppie was not there. Identification and recruitment is part of it, and changes have been made at that level, so interesting to see if they work out.

I’ve had season tickets since 1982, and this is more dispiriting than the 90s and to me the SK and DA eras. Surely the HOF and board understand current frustrations and that includes the playing group by the looks of it.

So you know, Josh Curran and also Baily Biondo Odo are from our junior system, Curran was a Hills District player. Was Parra SG Ball and one of those that the Roosters paid up a bit for , I guess identifying talent, before the Warriors came in for him.

I don't understand what the negativity is around Flanagan coming here.

He would never get control of the club like he had at the Sharks, so all of his forthcomings he was involved in at the Sharks are things that wouldn't occur if he was at Parra.

Besides, if you want to win comps, then you need people who are prepared to do whatever it takes. Flanno seems like that kind of guy. Bellyache does whatever it takes, which is part of the reason why the Storm has been so successful for almost 20 years now.

Do you want good people or people that do whatever it takes to get the job done...I'll take the latter if I want success.

Curran meh.
BBO looks like a missed one but given who he had in front of him, I don’t remember anyone crying too much about losing him at the time. Of course that will now be revisionisted into being a poor decision.

Agree. We already had 1 small defender in halves. This guy is pint sized. 173cm.

And we are a potential powerhouse like a Man United, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool etc we should not be experimenting with another rookie FFS like a Charlton Athletic.

If you had been involved in the junior league, it was obvious Curran was more than average, that’s why the Roosters paid up for him but he developed more slowly that they wanted.

Saab was described as a skinny , quick winger who offered little else. The back rowers at Manly were let go as the thoughts were that they wouldn’t go far as their main attribute was size, despite Schuster dominating through the juniors, coached against him and it was obvious he was easily the best player in his age group.

That happens, but the club needs to do better, fairly obvious when you look around .

Oh yay! We’re gonna get a message! That will make me feel MUCH better!

——————————————————————-
Parramatta will go to the extraordinary lengths of sending out a message to all members on Sunday to acknowledge the fan’s disappointment in the wake of the embarrassing 56-10 flogging by Manly.
It comes as Eels chief executive Jim Sarantinos once again guaranteed that Brad Arthur’s job was safe beyond this season.

The Eels’ premiership hopes are in freefall in the countdown to the finals after tumbling to the team’s fourth consecutive defeat.

To make matters worse star backrower Ryan Matterson is also now facing a three-to-five week ban for a careless high tackle that knocked Manly’s Brad Parker senseless on Saturday night.

The Eels are already without star hooker Reed Mahoney and tough prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard and have an extremely tough finish to the regular season.

While the take on the struggling Cowboys on Saturday, after that it is back-to-back games against competition heavyweights Melbourne and Penrith before the finals kick off.

But while many in the game think the Eels are as good as gone already after dropping to sixth spot, at least they are attempting to put on a united front amid the mounting pressure.

Sarantinos told News Corp that the club felt for the fans but no one was ready to throw in the towel.

“We are actually going to send a brief note out to members later (Sunday),” Sarantinos said.

“It is just a brief note just acknowledging that we know our fans and members are disappointed.

“We understand that.

“And that comes through loud and clear and I think it is important to us to acknowledge that.”

Sarantinos said that he hadn’t spoken to Arthur following the game but had exchanged text messages and the coach has his and the club’s full support to at least see out the final season of his existing contract in 2022.

“Of course. He is contracted for next year,” Sarantinos added.

“Like I said, in the current situation the club is in we really can’t afford to focus on anything other than what happens next week.

“In times like this the best thing you can do is show support for your people to help them and try and regain some confidence.

“I think Brad has been asked numerous times in recent periods does he feel like he has got the support and I think he has said yes.”

While the players have been hammered for their performance against Manly, with Phil Gould even suggesting they gave up, Sarantinos said he felt it was more a case of them trying too hard.

“I think as you would have seen from Brad in the last couple of weeks, I think he has acknowledged that the team is down on confidence,” Sarantinos explained.

“I don’t know it is through any lack of trying.

“I think sometimes when you are trying your hardest but you are down on confidence sometimes it just becomes counterproductive.”

He said Arthur was obviously “really disappointed”.

“But the reality is all we can do, the only thing we can do, is try and regroup and focus on the week ahead which is the Cowboys on Saturday,” he said.

“I think the best thing for us as a club, as a playing group, as a staff group at this point is to try and regain some confidence and the reality is that will only happen with a win.

“So the guys have to focus on what it is that we need to do to come together and get that win on Saturday and then hopefully get past what these last four weeks have been.

“To be perfectly honest it is tough to say much more than that.”

The NRL’s match review committee on Sunday slapped Matterson with a grade three careless high tackle charge which will see him get three weeks if he enters an early plea or five weeks if he unsuccessfully fights the charge at the judiciary.

Maika Sivo also copped a grade one high tackle charge but will escape with a fine.
