Even though I'm far from a fan of Gould, this update he provided shows how he connects with the fan base with details and explanations. Not sure our CEO and HOF would have the foresight to put out anything as comprehensive. Anyway, we probably do the same thing , let’s hope we do.

Now that the Junior Rep Football season has concluded, we will enter into a new phase of the Bulldogs Pathways Academy for the next three months of the 2024 season.

Recapping to this point in the year …

Our Harold Matthew’s Cup Under 17s team finished Minor Premiers

Our SGBall Cup Under 19s team played in the Grand Final

After 9 rounds our Jersey Flegg Cup Under 21s team currently sits in second place. Our NSW Cup Senior team also sits in second place.

There is obviously a long way to go in season 2024, and an even longer way to go in the overall development of our club, but we have built strong foundations that hopefully leads us to sustainable success in our longer term future.

The aim is not so much to be winning these lower grade Pathways competitions, but rather our priority is to run programs that develop future NRL talent.

Over the next three months, we will start to promote younger players into higher grades and into open age competitions like the NSWRL Ron Massey Cup and NSW State Cup.

These are great development Competitions and the final testing ground for those players we hope will eventually graduate to NRL level.

Players will be regularly rotated from one grade to another, between the restricted age and open age competitions.

Some players will be tried in different grades and in different positions to assist with their education and development.

It’s all part of the process of learning how to become a professional rugby league player.

During this period it may be difficult for fans to keep up with team changes, and game results may become a little random. These are very competitive competitions. But the priority here is the development of these players as individuals and giving them valuable education and experience.

Every week the coaches and Academy staff meet to review performances and monitor individual progress.

The program is designed to find a level of football for every player at every age.

Progression through the system is an individual thing. Some will develop quicker than others. There is no hard and fast rule to this process. Patience and perseverance is the key.

For the younger players, some will return to junior league competitions. Others will return to their home towns to play in local senior leagues. We monitor all these performances as well.

Selected groups will come to Belmore at regular intervals to continue in Academy programs.

I will provide a further update on our progress in a couple of months.

Hope you are enjoying the 2024 season so far. Our players and coaches are working extremely hard and I could not be happier with the character and culture I see in our players, coaches and staff every day.

Our Football Club Board has done an outstanding job over the past few years to provide the funding and support to make these Academy programs a reality. They are all passionate rugby league people and they are all BULLDOGS.

Our major sponsor Arthur Laundy and his family, have become heavily invested in our club and provided us with tremendous support and stability.

So too have all our Corporate partners and Members. We wouldn’t be able to build and run these programs for our players without your support.

And of course, a special thanks to our major supporter and financial contributor, Canterbury Leagues Club. You are always there for us.

We are all in this together.

I will provide an update on our Women’s Rugby League program in the next few weeks as we work towards our introduction into the NRLW competition in season 2025. There is plenty of excitement around our club regarding the Women’s program and the NRLW.

I look forward to seeing you all at the football.

Exactly. The salary cap prevents clubs ‘using $’ to directly recruit and retain players beyond a fixed limit. Other financial resources are required to entice players without the entire incentive being limited by the cap.

I thought we tried that and got caught. Are you suggesting we don't have the right people in place to know how to do it properly?
Apologies if I'm not following?

Or are you talking about the overall $ available at the club not being used in a way to entice footballers to come here? (ie, spending on non-salary cap related areas)
I'd agree - and it is a bummer, because it is not from lack - none of us could know 'why' (unless we are on the board), but there are reasonable suppositions I've read around here.

From Jimmy's recap:

Our Harold Matthew's Cup Under 17's team finished 3rd and in true Eels style, failed to fire a shot in the finals
Our SG Ball Cup Under 19s team finished 5th and got walloped by Gussy's boys in finals week one.
After 9 rounds our Jersey Flegg Cup Under 21s team currently sits in second last place. Our NSW Cup Senior team also sits in second last place.

Maybe that's why we haven't been updated.

And yet the part you didn't quote he mentioned what they finished or are currently coming... Funny that
Because those teams performing well is an indicator that they are producing good juniors. A team not performing well isn’t a sign of the opposite. It could just mean that their best players are playing up a grade.

Yeah definitely. It’s a resource we lack, so we’re are unable to provide genuine hands off benefits to players. The club isn’t allowed to do it, no matter how much extra profit it makes.

We are obviously lacking something. Blaming what we do have isn’t the answer, because without it we’d have even less.

You left out the PR spin that Crowds averages are up on this time last year.

Based off 3 x Arvo games compared to last year we had 2 x Thursday & 2 x Friday 6pm home games in the first 8 weeks.

I noticed Reed is being called out a few people in the media for his antics on the field as the new pest in the game.

There was no doubt he had grubbiness in his game at Parra like he got Cameron Smith sent to the sinbin in a semi final.

There were plenty of push & shoves where Reed was in the thick of it here at Parramatta. He wanted to take on Sam Burgess in his 2nd or 3rd game of FG.

We just ignored it because he was seen as one of us and tbf he was never really called out by the media during his time here.

Is it more obvious now at the Bulldogs because the dogs are getting into more stinks or its taken the media 4-5 years later to figure out that's just Reed.

How on earth would you know that? What if the problem is exactly what we DO have in non-financial resources?

If the finances are in place, then they aren't the problem. So what IS the problem?
Financial issues would have to do with usage: Is it how they are allocated? Is it who allocates them? Or is it where they are allocated? Or is it that they are not allocated? (the questions could go on and on).
If it is management: who/ where/ at which level?
It it is personnel, which ones/ at what level/ doing which jobs?

I don't know the answer, but neither do you. Which is odd, because it appears that you lecture others and continually try to make out we don't have the finances of other clubs. Sorry, but if it is just cash we are a perennial top 4 team and title contender.

No it just means that they are producing absolute shit and losing every game isn't how you develop a winning culture at the club.

But you would not understand that.

That is so disheartening to read because down deep I would say around 98% of us here know that we are light years away from having our pathways anywhere near setup and run as well as theirs no matter what some people on here keep chirping on about.

Until we get someone of the quality of Gould or even better Gould himself to restructure and run our pathways we will never and I mean NEVER get to the point where we will seriously compete for a title and be a genuine powerhouse.

As always the proof is in the pudding.

P.S. I have stopped watching our games, I just listen for the scores now. But I would never have said this before in all the time I have been following footy. I can't believe I'm saying this but I prefer watching the Bulldogs and their brilliant at times defensive attitude and patterns, which then affords them the wonderful attacking football that they have been producing as well. Even when they lose it is not for lack of trying and you know that they are just a couple of players short of a seriously good team and a genuine threat for a title. A quality front rower or two and a quality playmaking half and off to the races they go.

Our style of football sucks smelly eczema arse. Even when we win I never feel that we played all that well other than on a couple of occasions each season in all the time Potates has been our head coach. Pretty ordinary really and no wonder we haven't won a thing during his tenure.

Hey Ram remember when I said the Duke is going to turn Penrith into a powerhouse and everyone mocked me. Except you of course. Now I have been telling everyone the Bulldogs are building and closer to a grand final then us. Also was mocked.
See you get me.
