He is a risk if he can't deliver.

If @Poupou Escobar said it's OK for a coach to be potentially shit because we've been shit in 2023/24, the masses would gang up on him even more.

The benchmark has been set. We wanted Wayne Bennett. Now we need to find an alternative in his calibre or as close as possible.

Run out of allies so putting Pous wrinkly old nuts in your mouth hey.

So who's your risk free choice Gronky?
I don't know. The club needs to work this out and it won't be easy.

There seems to be candidates who are either rookies or seasoned NRL coaches with up and down careers.

The only merkin who is a "rookie" but has considerable ESL experience is McDermott. You can't fault his experience, in 2015 he coached Leeds to win the treble in that year.

This is what Gould meant about more important areas that need fixing.
How do you know he wasn't referring to our fanbase which includes at least one argumentative troll residing on the west coast as well as a bunch of huggers who thought the old coach was grouse and should have been kept on? These are big problems too you know?!

Yep, merkins whinging about Gould’s comments, but he had a point. Sacking Arthur was only going to improve things if we replaced him with someone better. The only someone better that was available was Bennett, and he chose the wealthier club. Now we’re going to get, at best, someone as good as the former coach. More likely is they’ll be worse.

But if the club continues to spend on pathways and the rest of the football program, we should continue to improve anyway. This is what Gould meant about more important areas that need fixing.
Listen dickhead. Whether it’s Gould or any other media identity giving an opinion on our future coach it’s all just opinion and based on nothing but a subjective guess.

Your assessment like everyone’s is just a guess. There is no science behind it. Even by your own circular posts you stated countless times that Bennett hasn’t won a comp in 14 years yet now he is suddenly the best option? How the f**k would he know or anyone for that matter not part of the club on what else needs to happen. He’s having a guess like all of us.

This is why you are the king of trolls here. At least have some type of consistency or better still a memory of what you said last time. The only consistency you do have is that you are a consistent f**kwit that pollutes every thread you participate in.

PS Go f**k yourself.

that would leave the arm grabber to defend in the centres, Russell's move to centre has at least helped our backline defense IMO

then you have the arm grabber defending on the wing

it's a tough choice
Though Bazzza still might go

5. Russell 4. Will 3. Harper 2. Sivo

14. Blaize

He still might want a back on the bench.

That's what I'm predicting.

I think Harper can handle front line NRL defensive responsibilities a little better than Blaize, and Talagi's strength is more as an attacking option off the bench (only if needed through injury or needing to play catch-up).

Bullshit... we didn't want Wayne Bennett until we thought he was available (as an outside chance) and our approach to him in early May became a public rumour.

Just because we didnt get him doesn't mean everyone else is second choice... or do you treat your wife as your second choice because you didn't marry Elle McPherson (or whomever your fantasy woman was at the time)?

Or the blokes who boo our own players when they are introduced? I know who I'd rather have.

Every coach is a risk, dare I say it even Bellamy wouldn't be guaranteed to get us a premiership.

Coaching an NRL team isn't brain science or rocket surgery sure, but there are so many minor variations from players and their skills, their attitude, their injuries and illnesses, etc. to the support staff you have, the decision making power... it goes on.

All you can do is look for someone who you think can close the most gaps and handle the squad and club you have.

BA was done but it doesn't mean we need someone better, we need someone different.

Yeah there are 25 Wayne Bennett's out there.

Should be easy.

Cheika is as close to Bennett that you can find in the current landscape when it comes to managing players a leader of men and getting them up for big games.

Bennett is no tactical genius in fact he is the complete opposite he let's his assistants do the technical coaching while Bennett controls the mental prep for the players.

For those worried about the pathways with Cheika well last time I thought that was HOF and recruitment officers job was getting a system in place to bring them up into first grade. Clearly they have failed so unless there is change there the HC can only work with what he has got.

Has Wayne Bennett help deliver any pathways in the past 20 years it's not the coaches job.

Cheik would rally the Parra community unlike many coaches we have seen before.

Imagine the extra corporates that will be keeping an eye on the potential with Cheika in charge. He has the potential to change the sporting landscape and putting a further gap between League and Union like ever before If he does come and becomes a success.
