That isn't "something " thats just a personal preference. Lots of social people like low maintenance properties. You'll find when things are tighter space wise then stuff is closer. Parks become more common etc. So do networks,social groups. And when things are closer it means less time and more convenient to get to.

Reality is humans generally like to experience new sensations. And that could be moving to the middle of nowhere and living off grid. It may be a far far worse lifestyle but the change of experience awakens the mind and breaks the chains of the repetive cycle that puts us in auto pilot for many hours of or day.

I stand by it. Newcastle used to be a city. When you go there you can still see where it used to be.

It certainly had a ‘heart’ or CBD when wool, grain and coal was shipped through its port (now mainly coal), steel was produced there, and pre-urbanisation.
There have been all sorts of attempts to revitalize the CBD but you can’t make merkins shop in a shitty strip mall when there’s a Westfield equivalent in the ‘burbs where they now live.
In another 5 years it’ll be more lively.
