I like the Volkman signing if it happens, although it does seem a bit strange after signing Hawkins as I think they are both natural 7s.

Volkman was an elite junior. If he’s back fully fit, with game time under his belt I still think he’s capable of making it as a first grader.

Over the hill? The premiers have these merkins on the books:

Eisenhuth
Garner
Luke
Peachey

The grand finalists have these merkins:

Lewis
Garlick
Moeroa
Seve
Tonumaipea

There's a place for over the hill journeymen in every squad.

And we have always signed young talent. These merkins all made their NRL debuts for us in recent years:

MerkinYearAge on debut
Kaufusi201819
Mahoney201820
Salmon201819
Stone201821
Drown201918
Parry201920
Dunster202021
Utoikamanu202020
Arthur202118
Greig202121
Loizou202118
Penisini202118
Russell202119
Miller-Stephen202320
Arthur202419
Guymer202420
Sanders202419
Talagi202419

And before you f**ken whinge about the quality of some of these youngsters, you're the one jizzing over 'exciting' young talent who have played f**k all first grade. Just because they're young doesn't mean they will become NRL players or even backups. That's why clubs like Penrith and the Storm sign over the hill journeymen ffs
f**k you are intolerable.

Well you need at least three halves in your top 30. Is four too many? And maybe Volkman is only being offered a spot in the supplementary list? In which case he might get a better offer somewhere else.

Don’t rate Volkman. Might have good stats in reserve grade but don’t think he offers much in 1st grade.
Hawkins is cover for Moses, if anything we need someone at 6 in case of injury to Brown. We aren’t challenging for a premiership next year so I’d be giving Lynn/Twidle a run in cup rather than bringing Ronald in

sigh!!

Yes Bea Arthur loved promoting young talent, actively promoted them and never dropped them while the older more experienced players always took the bullet for poor form.

Keep squeezing and don’t let go.

Pretty much every club has a team capable of making the eight, and that includes us, both this year and last year. What you want is a team capable of making the top four. We might’ve already added those pieces.
Not enough pieces added as yet for top 4. A few new interesting players and re-signing a few juniors is a start. But the juniors need experience along with some of the new signings. Ryles has to embed his style into the team which might take more than 1 year to fully
implement. 2026 is more likely we'll challenge for top 4 imo.

They talked about turning him into a hooker or utility
That's my thinking that Ryles will make him a hooker/utility. Appears to have some size so able to handle rigors of hooker and can fill in at multiple back line positions and even back row.

Esra Mam apparently involved in car accident and failed drug test. Not sure alcohol or other drugs. More to come but bet gets only 1 match ban served during preseason.
If he gets 1 match

The NRL integrity unit needs to be put in a cannon and fired into the sun.

If you see the footage of the accident and the car going at a hefty pace lose complete control onto the other side it actually looks worse then the horrific one on the harbour bridge last Thursday. The only difference being no one has died here

He has tested positive to initial roadside drug test which suggests he was under the influence of Drugs. He was also driving unlicensed. Which is inexcusable.

Like if he is not getting a bare minimum of 6-8 matches to send a message then the NRL are literally taking the piss.

It wouldn't surprise me anyway the Broncos flick him an easy excuse to clean up the cap & Madge to send an early message.

Ben Hunt will be a Bronco in 2025 if that eventuates i reckon.

according to their profiles Hawkins/Volkman are similar height but Hawkins is 84kg or so Volkman 93kg.....

That's decent size for a half...maybe Volkman could be fighting for an 14 role if he comes....with Hawkins purely halves depth...
