Not a bad move from Gus, puts them in a good position to sign talent coming out of their.
We should be using our relationship with Joey Grima to try and set up something similar with PNG.
It shows the difference between a proactive guy like Gus whose looking for advantages and ways to bring talent into a club in comparison to reactive clowns we have in MON/Ben Rogers.

I don't think our 2 clowns would even think of contacting Joey Grima/PNG or Fiji.

We have had a great history with Fijian players especially in the past decade in Semi & Sivo. If you want to throw Hayne potentially in there as well.

Yet i don't think we have been smart enough to cash in.

With Semi & Sivo at there peaks it should have been the perfect time to make a dent in Fiji.

We should have had scouts/programs in Fiji offering scholarship's and building a development pathway for the past 4 or 5 years getting some of the best talent and bringing them over.

Gus had had Kikau there for 2 years and already setting up programs over there with Kikau as the face of it.

Fiji is an untapped resource when it comes to RL talent.

Just another example of us as a club not showing any innovation and potentially trying to get ahead of the rest comp.

Agree but this immediate checking into a rehab is damage control by the broncos. They know if they lose their 5/8th on top of having a halfback who is injured at least 50% of the year - their first year under Maguire will be doomed to fail and the promises of a bright future post-Walters dissipates, and with it does membership, sponsors and public sentiment in a one team town.

the broncos will argue his voluntary admission to rehab is the biggest sign of remorse and accountability that could be taken, so therefore his punishment being an extended amount of absence from the game does nothing to help rehab a young player who is remorseful of his mistake and seeking treatment to be a better person and will result in further mental health issues which is he working to overcome blah blah

he’ll get 4 weeks tops, $100k fine with $50k suspended
Or Corey Parker will tell him not to do it again and he'll return to normal duties. That's the way to fix a toxic culture at a club.

This is not a sharks forum but they'd improve if Haynes moved back to fullback with Trindall and Atkinson as their halves. Haynes proved that he is tentative at halfback in big games and simply freezes. His best position is fullback imo.

Hayne : Aussie

Sivo : Playing Cup for Penfers when Semi left when we signed him.

Semi : May have been scouted from Fiji, cant recall.

Out of that lot I think only Semi was scouted from the homeland. They now have the Vodaphone Cup which is a local League competition so I reckon most clubs would have scouts or connections over there now as they certainly can produce some decent athletes.

You missed my point of course clubs have connections over there.

How you can trust our fools there probably the same ones recruiting here that have NFI.

Anyway Semi & Sivo are Fijian as they come.

Doesn't matter where we recruited them from.

They still hailed and grew up in Fiji.

Gus has had Kikau for 2 years and already striking up partnerships and pathways into Fiji and using Kikau as the face of it. Its called smart business and looking at a potential another source to secure talent.

My point was wtf have we been doing when we had Semi & Sivo as faces/marketing tools of the club. They could have been the face of Fiji Rugby League and we should have used that to our advantage. Starting programs and creating a Maiko Sivo or Semi Radradra Scholarship for example.

We could have plucked 5 or 6 kids from Fiji brought them in and developed them.

Innovation & trying to jump ahead of the curve is something Parramatta never do. We could have had a jump start on more Fijian talent ahead of the comp.

Instead we rely on our junior catchment and we cant even get that right.

@TheRam has been saying this for ages if anyone bothered to listen to him.

I agree

What's he worth though you reckon

I imagine we would have to offer 650-700k a season to get him to look at moving to Sydney though.

But he is probably the best young dummy half on the market.

Sometimes you have to roll the dice
The wrap up here on him is that he’s a lock to be Qld Origin hooker before too long. Whether that turns out to be the case remains to be seen, but he’s very highly thought of.

Jarrod Haynes or Shayne Haynes?

So didn't this go pear shaped with the Broncos and and Manly when a certain coach was basically told who to sign by a player manager ?
Sure did. I’m in the opposite camp to some on here. I’d want Parra to have nothing to do with a manager’s son unless of course he is absolutely the best man for the job. We talk about nepotism… Fk being directed certain players over others. No thanks.

Innovation like trying to get Marata out of a suspension by having him picked for the Maori side, even though he's not a Maori?
