Rumours and Stuff

I too would like it to be. What are your thoughts on the Brandon Smith rumour?
I think he’s better than what we have and better than what we could get in same time, but I’m far from sold on how he’ll impact culture (especially with JAC already on board) or how he’ll go individually after injury (and a relatively poor run at Roosters).

The other thing I’ve been thinking about is the future of halves and I don’t just mean ours.
Does it feel to anyone else that we’re about to enter a real dearth of halves. Regardless of how you feel about them, DCE, Reynolds, Keary, Foran, Johnson, Choady, even The Chad are all going to retire (you assume) in the next year or so. It’ll be a chunk ok skilled players (& salary cap) all going at once, and other than a couple here and there, it doesn’t seem like they’re being replaced.

I’m just waiting for the punchline.

There are some talented halves coming through.
Tigers have Galvin
Storm just resigned
Dogs have Woods
Fins have Katoa and Oloapu
Panthers have Blaize
Raiders have Sanders

Lots of new halves coming through with potential

JAC is good for energy. He may annoy a few but overall his possitive energy will make training more enjoyable.
I don't like the idea of signing anyone coming off an ACL.

We’ll see I guess but it just seems most other positions there’s a gradual turnover. This feels like half the comp will retire within 12 months of each other

Yeah culturally I don’t mind one or the other but both I think could be disastrous

It seems like a lot of players will be retiring around the same time.

Halfback surely is a position that is hard to replace long term

Matthew Johns called this out about 6-7 years ago.

Halves ain't being coached properly at junior or junior rep level and get stuck in structured coaching.

Flair and backyard type footy is coached out of them pretty early on.

Kids are also bigger these days which means the quick little halves face a battle to get selected when making junior rep sides.

I suppose if you have some connections it might help you get a foot in the door but if your a nobody then its hard to get noticed for good reasons if your getting trampled on at 12-13 years because your body hasn't developed to tackling the big islander boys who are bit more physically developed it doesn't help

I watched a video of Warnie saying how as a young spin bowler you’ve just got to get used to being tonked by everyone until you can actually learn the skill. It’s amazing as a sport rugby league hasn’t really appeared to grasp that.

Agree run first and heads up footy has been coached out of them.

Moses is at his best when he runs first
