Not to split hairs but I think he praised the fitness levels.
I don't mind splitting hairs. MON said:

one thing that they all have and it's been noticeable and commented and acknowledged from Jason and the

assistant coaches is that they have an incredible work ethic and their stress

tolerance is very high to that physical load that they've been put through and I guess in many ways that's a testament to

Brad and the regime that he led and the coaches acknowledge that because they're able to get the volume of work into the

do things but that work ethic has been instilled in them over many many years

which I know the current group are very grateful for"

Yes, one follows the other but it’s curious because our fade outs usually happened around the 50-60 minute mark last year, (highlighted by that super detailed analysis I wish I could find. The same one that included age analysis of our forwards vs other teams).
If fitness wasn’t an issue, then something else was going on in the team, which stretched back to 2023 and not just 2024.
I think sustained effort was aways an issue for a few of our forwards, and there is an inherent quality to that. No matter how fit he gets, Junior Paulo will never be able to make the repeat efforts that JFH makes, but he also won't be picked up and driven back by Ray Stone.

The way we overcame that was to try to control the ball and complete our sets. This is something we were one of the best at up until 2022 and then one of the worst these past two years: https://www.nrl.com/stats/teams/?competition=111&season=2024&stat=1000210

What changed after 2022? We got a new attacking coach, and set completions are determined by the attack.
Maybe they all got sick of BA and/or stopped believing in what he was saying, or he didn’t instill belief in the team, which was compounded by squad deficiencies and injuries.
When the team wanted it they performed (see last or 2nd last end of 2023 beating Penrith at Penrith, with Asi at #7).
Sacking the coach isn’t always the answer but sometimes it is. This time it was.
We'll see, but I trust the current mob to make good decisions. They might be bean counters, but the good ones are open to advice from subject matter experts.

This paragraph was quite damning on BA - Round 8 after we lost to Manly at Brookvale and went 3-5.

We were ahead 14-6 at halftime similar to the game before against the Dolphins in Darwin

And after eight rounds in 2024, it’s clear they’re not even the under achieving 2023 Eels, they’re much worse. Yet they’re still chasing a style of play that the rest of the league has left behind. For a club with so many inherent advantages over the rest of the competition off field, it’s becoming embarrassing how little they’re using them to help the on field product.
The drop in set completions in 2023-24 shows we in fact weren't "still chasing a style of play" we used before. We went away from what worked for us.

You're right. Look at Faalongo, Wishart and Pezet as backup spine players which are all very good NRL players and they're stockpiling them so where is the money coming from? Not one article about this from journo's or the NRL apparently. And they keep signing good players from other teams as well. Nothing fishy here!
I think we can all agree it's not a level playing field, and hasn't been for a very long time. If ever.

Shouldn’t have been included, the Orr bros also manage our ex coach and family, interesting.
Our Ex coach has already stated he wants to coach in the NRL again next yr....not sure which club would be after him if any...wants to get the gang back together again.

So if Dylan was to go then:
- Volkman,
- Galvin,
- Luke Metcalfe
- Wishart
- Pezet
- Faalogo (understand he's a fullback but has also played 5/8)
- I'm sure there are a host of new players who will emerge this yr who are currently stuck behind incumbents
Sky's not falling in just yet

Since we aren't getting Eli Clarke Id respond by locking in Volkman to a bargain basement contract for a couple of years. This would leave us near 800k for an elite player in 26 whether this be hooker or edge.
Volkman was a gun in the lower grades but has had some setbacks. If he doesn't work out we are cashed up.
Brown is an elite athlete but is a space cadet. Been waiting for years for him to really step up.
