Rumours and Stuff

This is what I mean about your other-than-average intelligence.

If a halfback gets injured during a game he must be replaced, during that game, by someone else in the game day 17/18 players. The following week, if he is still injured, he can be replaced by anyone in the squad.

How did that logic go for Baldy...

I'd be happy to tell Dylan to f**k off.
Unfortunately this 10yr contract means we lost Blaize and Sanders.
No it didn't. We lost them because we had Moses and Drown contracted for 2025.
It also means for the next 7yrs we can't plan on what to do at 5/8 untill we know his plans....
Like any off contract player the club wants to keep.

He supposedly has until round ten to activate the option. Will rival clubs give him that long to decide? If so, they can't make alternate plans either. See why it's not any more of a problem than any other sort of player retention? The risk is around him getting injured while the PO is still active. Like Christian Welch did to the Storm in 2019.
In 2022 I pointed out how all these POs and 4yr deal would bite us on arse. But I am just a f**king idiot...
Well you are mate. You sound like a rugby league journalist.

And without the options we wouldn't have ~$1m in cap in limbo for seasons 2026 and 2027 right now and right up until Round 10 potentially which precludes us from negotiating with other high priced replacements for one of the most important positions on the field...

But yeah, it's win-win...
If we were trying to keep him, we wouldn't be able to make offers to his replacements anyway. If we didn't want to keep him, we wouldn't have agreed to the player options in the first place.

Well as you say player options are a way to try to lower current player cost, likewise the option values themselves probably affect current cost as well

If options really did reduce the asking price of players, wouldnt a club like the panthers use them? They lose quality players year after year yet they never offer an option.

I'm baffled

Panthers board ratified that player or mutual options will not be given.

Club options are fine as the club holds the cards.

But yeah Pou knows better than the 4 time winning club

Yup. Doubt we lose Blaize if Dylan was off in 2026.
If we wanted to keep Drown post-2025 would we have lied to Talagi and told him the 6 jersey would be his? You seem to think you can build a club by playing mind games and bullshitting everyone.

We knew Drown was off contract at the end of 2026 and he was the preferred option to stay. We couldn't tell Talagi the 6 jersey was his if we intended to extend Dylan Brown. Even without player options, you still want to keep most of your best players when their contracts are up. But you also know you might lose them. That's the risk you take. You can't tell Talagi to stay and maybe there'll be a vacancy if Drown doesn't sign an extension or activate his PO next year. And you also can't bullshit him just in case. We might hate them, but player agents are essential, and the club officials need to be grownups and deal ethically with them.

Hey Blaize.
Dylan's contract is up and he doesn't want an extension. We want you to be our 5/8 and we will include a PO so if this changes you have a get out clause.
