Rumours and Stuff

Other clubs have these clauses too. And whenever the player declines to activate the clause, it’s proof that it was for unders. When he does take the clause, it means it was a better deal than he could get anywhere else. It also means the club didn’t offer an upgrade, which would be the case for most players with a PO. The player option is insurance, and the expectation is that the player won’t need to use it.
You'd think Harry Grant would've got more, from either the Storm or another club, if he didn't take up his PO though.

Supporting cast, can't see anyone paying him more than us. I guess that's why Gavin Orr had to create an ad for dylan. Sounds like no one has been enquiring.
This is a good point. Lots of clubs, if not all, would have known that Drown was able to be approached from Nov last year due to the ridiculous PO in place.... But seemingly nobody has made any approaches to his mgmt in that time hence the spruiking by the Orr brothers...

He hasn't got MMs long kicking game. His other skills are comparable IMHO.

yeah, I meant to mention the long kicking game, they may be comparable but Mitch is superior in my opinion, they both have a good running game but Dylbros defense is next level

I'm a Dylbro fan and I just hope he gets his act together under Ryles but back to the original issue I cant see any team buying him as a no 7, but that's just my 2 bob opinion

so if Nathan Cleary rocked up to the club tomorrow and said I've had a massive falling out with Penrith, I wanna play for you guys and I will do it for 750k ...... we could just go, hey Dylan, sorry bro, you're gone after this year cos we only have a contract to the end of 2025 ...... yeah, nah
Obviously. That is the cost to the club of selling the player the PO. The club is committed to the player while the player can choose to match the commitment or not. But in the above scenario, the club would just make it work and shoehorn Cleary into the team and the salary cap. $750k is less than 7% of the 2026 cap.

Further to this, we decided we were happy to have Drown here until 2031 when we gave him the PO. If we had agreed a nine year contract with no player options we would still have been stuck with the merkin.

Basically this is it ..

Every November 1st when every other club can start to work on the following seasons rosters we have to wait until round 10 the following year to find out if one of our higher earning players in a pretty important position is going to stay and if he leaves we are buggered signing anyone as they would have been snapped up. (This is ever time his PO is up btw)

yet again, an assumption stated as a fact, if you haven’t seen the contract terms who knows. Guess it supports your ongoing argument so we just nod and agree, Pou, you are getting tiresome in your attempts to “educate us”
Well you haven't seen the contract either so stop f**ken whinging.

It's all part of the process to remove player options coupled with a player manager imposing his responsibilities on said players. This manager negotiated the current contract and now the club (coach) wants it rectified so proper planning can occur. Said Manager is puffing out his chest and our club is now not so compliant. Ryles has balls. Loving the changes he has initiated. Loving our tougher stand. Change is not without consequence.
The club might want it 'rectified' but it is up to the player to agree to an extension without options. Why would he agree unless the options represented an underpayment? Your bullshit narrative is bullshit.

This. The assertion that he only has a contract to 2025 is one of the dumber takes on here. If we go “ Dylan you aren’t what we are want from 2026 onwards” he can say too f**king bad , my contract says I can be here until 2031.

Maybe he's not a mercenary and loves the club. Maybe he wants to stay in Melbourne and has no other options within driving distance? Maybe the Storm have other recruitment/retention advantages that have contributed to their 15+ year dominance. They've already proven they're willing to bend the rules to keep their roster strong.
