Basically this is it ..

Every November 1st when every other club can start to work on the following seasons rosters we have to wait until round 10 the following year to find out if one of our higher earning players in a pretty important position is going to stay and if he leaves we are buggered signing anyone as they would have been snapped up. (This is ever time his PO is up btw)
No we don't have to wait. We offer an extension/upgrade with a deadline, just as rivals will do. Will rival clubs be waiting until round ten? If so, they can't plan either. If he knocks back our upgrade we can be pretty confident he won't take the PO. We sign his replacement and tell him if he ends up taking the PO he will be playing centre until Moses is gone. If Drown doesn't receive (or take) a better offer then he's stuck with the PO, which is the best he could get.

This. The assertion that he only has a contract to 2025 is one of the dumber takes on here. If we go “ Dylan you aren’t what we are want from 2026 onwards” he can say too f**king bad , my contract says I can be here until 2031.
That's what we wanted all along though, or we wouldn't have agreed to it.

Why are we offering an extension/ upgrade if the whole point of the PO was to get him at a lower price...
Telling him he will be playing centre is just dumb.

Imagine your scenario we offer him an extension in November he says nah we sign Munster with his money then Brown takes up his option making us have to release other players to come in under the cap.. not a great plan.

well there is a contract with options ..... thats still a contract beyond 2025

you are just trying to say that people should never be confident of having a player with POs the entire length of that contract ...... I think people understand that
Technically, I don't think an offer without acceptance can form the basis of a contract - sure we have included clauses that make an offer beyond what was originally accepted (2025), but unless they are accepted before they expire, they are not contractual. Happy to be proven wrong by any legal 'experts' though - my assumption is based on some very basic commercial law studies about 40 years ago.

That is exactly what I am saying and I haven't once suggested any LU posters don't understand that - my original comment was about the way the media portrayed the PO's as being 'escape clauses' and how they are preying on the less informed Eels supporters in a disingenious manner, IMHO.

The lower price was for the contract that ends this year. The extension is for 2026 and beyond.

It worked with Gutherson.

he goes OK, but that is not the issue, the grown ups were discussing Brown's market value
It's whatever clubs will pay. And every player goes worse in a weaker team, which is what you have when a high priced star is unavailable. Drown (and the rest of the team) is worse without Moses. Moses (and the rest of the team) is worse without Drown. My point, and it's a shame I have to spell it out for the grownups, is that Drown's performances without Moses in the team don't reflect on his value one way or the other.

That just doesn't sound right. Takes a lower price for a 2 year extension 🤔 because a PO

Not sure it worked with Gutho telling him we aren't offering him a new contract is what worked.

Munster was what you took from that....
