Hopgood came as a cup player

Joe O would have had portion of his salary covered by the Tigers

Lomax is the exemption but he probably sold himself a bit cheap given how good he was this year.
These are all examples of the club trying to get value from low demand players. We certainly weren't going to get any value from the kinds of players the Tigers have been recruiting in recent years. As for Lomax and JAC, I reckon they are on huge money. There would be plenty of clubs interested in JAC and the fact he agreed to a club option in his contract means we are paying extra for it.

I just think the cap efficiency of POs is overrated.
We wouldn't know.
Marginal at best, prob why the club isn't offering them anymore
If the club isn't offering them anymore it's because of the bad press surrounding them. They might also still be offering them but not reporting them in the signing announcements, for the same reason (media hysteria). As an example, Joseph Tapine has a PO for 2028, according to nrl.com, however there was no mention of it in his signing announcement: https://www.raiders.com.au/news/2022/09/26/joseph-tapine-re-signs-with-the-raiders/

Fa'asuamaleaui also has a similar contract to Drown, but the options weren't mentioned in the press release: https://www.titans.com.au/news/2023/08/11/titans-duo-here-to-stay-on-the-gold-coast/

Koula's extension with Manly included a PO but not a word about it in the official announcement: https://www.seaeagles.com.au/news/2...-three-players-and-extend-club-international/

Alternately, we have not offered more POs because we are no longer under cap pressure. We can offer more salary cap space instead of POs. However, I think the club has learnt to not be too transparent with the media and fans, and if they include player options in future contracts, they will keep it quiet. They might eventually appear on the nrl.com signings tracker but these often aren't discovered by whoever maintains that database until they are revealed in the media when the player is next off contract. Given the way the media stirs the dopey fans up, there is no reason for the clubs to give them more ammunition.

True, but we don't know the monetary value and never will. We will only see the PO. Therefore it's stupid to assume we gave it away for free or all our players would have them.

Wasn't the value 900k takes up player option it will be a million and his manager is seeing if anyone can pay him 1.2?

One of the last takes on here on PO.

If they weren't bad for the club why do so many punters journalist and some clubs think they are are bad for clubs?

Current Aus rep and 2024 most improved player Zac Lomax?
Albeit past their primes but former rep players Josh Addo-Carr & Joe Ofahengaue?
J’Maine Hopgood being selected for Origin after he played for us?
Absolute nobodies

I know this isn't the point of your post but I wonder how far Addo-Carr is past it? When he's been on the field his numbers aren't that far off what they were at his peak in Melbourne. Even if going by tries per game he appears to sit just under 1, which looks like the average across his career and this is in a poor attacking team.

Could it be he's past it in terms of being able to stay on the field?
