But an option can't have negative value. In the worst case scenario, Dylan is in the same situation as if he'd exercised his option to stay 2 months ago. By not doing it and doing a bit of advertising he has a non-zero chance of a better outcome (either a higher salary elsewhere or at the Eels). I don't think there's anything dumb about it......there's no downside for them.
Orr through his media contacts is trying to play us to get a contract increase. Got caught in a lie. Don't think Ryles isn't taking notice. Brown is replaceable.

Jumped on socials for the first time in a while today. Penrith acting like someone who checked into an Airbnb and like it better than their own home.

In a way I’m glad we played at Accor for those 2 years because getting the new stadium felt like such a big upgrade to our home . I think this whole thing is an interesting time for Penrith . A couple of seasons away from their community they tied into so well , as much as they want to paint it as their home at Parra we all know it’s not and they do to . Will be interesting when the Penrith community comes back to a Venues NSW stadium that is much more corporate and not in line with their community / local football roots .
They’re a great team , but I think being out of Penrith and essentially renting an area for a while will be as big an obstacle as they’ve had to overcome in this period.

I agree that he's (very) replaceable, and that the end game is to probably get a better deal at the Eels. But regardless of how silly some of this stuff is, the chance of another club expressing interest and creating competition is not decreasing as a consequence of it. I can't imagine that any current clubs will play ball at Dylan's price, but I can understand why he and his manager try every form of 'advertising' that they can think of. Even if it gives him a 5% chance of a positive outcome, it is worth it for him.

Definitely some potential upside money wise but I get the feeling Ryles would be less then impressed. They stood by him last time he betrayed the team but may not feel like protecting him next time.

Phil ‘Buzz’ Rothfield reveals his highlights and lowlights from the week in sport
Mitchell Moses has no right to publicly chime into the debate about his halves partner Dylan Brown staying loyal to Parramatta. Plus Buzz reveals his highlights and lowlights.

Monday Buzz is back! Phil Rothfield runs the rule over the week in sport, potting Mitch Moses for weighing in on the Dylan Brown saga.

ROOSTERS RAGE
The Sydney Roosters are fed up with player managers linking off-contract players to their club. Chairman Nick Politis has furiously denied weekend speculation the Roosters were to have talks with Parramatta Eels five-eighth Dylan Brown.
“We are not interested,” Politis said, “Whenever a big-name player comes off contract he is linked to us. It’s managers just trying to create interest.”

HOLY MOSES
It’s a bit hypercritical of new Parramatta Eels skipper Mitchell Moses to be publicly chiming into the debate about his halves partner Dylan Brown staying loyal to Parramatta.
On the eve of the season, Brown is shopping himself around and has meetings planned for this week with rival clubs.
And as for Moses, he’ll be doing exactly the same thing this time next year. He has the same escape clause in his own contract.
That Parramatta officials have allowed their two highest paid players to have these get-out opportunities is a shocking way to be running a football organisation.

LUNCH WITH RICKY
The Ricky Stuart Foundation’s annual charity lunch on Friday at Doltone House will feature some of the biggest names in rugby league. Nathan and Ivan Cleary will be interviewed by Yvonne Sampson. Andrew and Matty Johns, who are apparently talking again, will be on stage together to be interviewed by Matt Nable and Bryan Fletcher.

FAREWELL, LEGEND
The funeral for legendary South Sydney Rabbitohs forward Gary Stevens will be held at St Andrews Cathedral at 11.30am on Thursday followed by the wake at Souths Juniors. Stevens, who was 81, passed away last week after a long battle with dementia.

SPOTTED
League immortal Joey Johns and cricket legend Greg Matthews walking the aisles at Coles supermarket at Eastgate Bondi Junction on Saturday.
SPOTTED
Laurie Daley, Victor Radley, Tom Trbojevic, his brother Jake, Latrell Mitchell, Mitchell Moses, Angus Crichton, Brandon Smith, Cameron Ciraldo, Valentine Holmes, Sam Walker, Zac Lomax, Matt Burton and Ivan Cleary at the Luke Combs concert at Accor Stadium.

f**king Rothfield keeping footy fans stupid. They are options to stay, not to leave. As though Dylan Brown would've signed a nine year contract without options if we had only told him to take it or leave it.

If it wasn’t for the way he left the Dogs then we’d probably all be pretty happy with getting him to replace Sivo.
Personally I’m happy and I like what I’m hearing about JAC, particularly his energy and talk.
Sounds like a good senior player for the young guys to have around.
Gillard and Gutherson were very standoffish with fans, JAC loves them and understands their value, so I think we did pretty well in this regard!

I agree with him on the Moses comment. Moses should have kept his nose in the bulrushes.

Tauamalolo didn’t have any options in his contract that was of similar length.
Taumalolo's value was pretty much established when he started that contract though. There was more downside than upside to his future form trajectory. He was given nearly $1m per season in 2017 (when the cap was $7m).

Dylbags on the other hand was, and still is, a bit of an uncertain proposition. He can be great, but he can also drift out of the game. And he has a pimp's moustache.
