They're only talking about the first player option which is the one that expires in Round 10. So essentially if he agrees to stay that itself negates the first PO

To put it plainly they are asking for more money to stay at Parramatta. The PO has nothing to do with it.
This is Orr realising he sold his client short when he accepted the current contract with the POs in it. Now he wants more money and is pushing the narrative that the POs were bad for Parra and we can get rid of them if we would only give his client more cash. Maybe we're not the ones who are desperate? Just take the PO ffs Orr, and try again in three years time.

Dylan and his management are doing exactly what the PO allows them to do. Take their time and explore all possible options for an extension with parra or a new contract somewhere else.

You'd be silly not to.
Agreed. They are entitled to, since they gave up money when they agreed to the PO in the first place. We've already benefited from the PO. Now it's Drown's turn.
People around here will say... it's exactly the same a being off contract. But from the clubs point of view, is it??
It's not exactly the same. The difference is we can't f**k him off if we wanted to. But if we gave him this contract in the first place it means we wanted him to stay.
Maybe Ryles doesn't rate brown as highly as BA did? Maybe Ryles thinks too much money is invested in the halves?? Maybe a young kid is coming through they'd wanna invest in?
All possible. But when we gave Drown this contract we decided we were happy for him to stay if he activated the option. If he doesn't, we will use his cap space elsewhere. The longer it goes on, the more likely it is he will stay. Rival offers will come with their own deadlines and there's currently plenty of first graders off contract.
Point is Ryles and his team have no control of the roster till these POed players make their decisions.
If these players didn't have POs, and we wanted to keep them, what sort of deadlines do you really think we would be imposing?
Hopefully if they do move on, there's some talent on the market to replace them.
Lomax was still available in April last year. Players are all f**king whingers these days, and a club with cap space is very attractive. Plenty of merkins will be homesick for Kellyville. And I'm not just talking about the Arthur's boys.

It wouldn't be such a issue if the deadline wasn't so long
I suspect it's the kind of deadline you'd give to an elite player, whether he had a PO or not. If the deadline was too short it would be worthless, just like if the value of the option years was much below expected market value. To be an option there has to be a chance it would and wouldn't be activated. If it was a no brainer either way it wouldn't be an option at all.

I would assert that another downside is the effect on team morale as well as Drown's relationship with the coach for season 2025. When you look at the likes of Stephen Crighton, Rheed, Kikau etc at least when they made their decisions it was well before an upcoming season and allowed all parties to digest the decision and crack on with the season ahead of them before they departed. This Round 10 activation of his PO bullshit has the potential to promote dissension among the group and greatly hamstrings any chance to succeed IMO...
Moses took longer than round ten in 2023. Do you really think we would be telling Drown to sIgN oR f**k oF!!! if there was no PO? This sort of thing might hurt morale but the players are at fault here, not the club. Drown can activate his PO any time.

This.
I'm sure they don't want to lose Fletcher such as they did Talagi and Sanders.
Well there needs to be a vacancy when he wants to play first grade, so one of Moses or Drown would need to be gone. I believe Fletcher is only 18 this year so hopefully no other club offers him top 17 money any time soon. How many years does Moses have left in first grade? He is 31 this year so could be another four or five years depending on how his body holds up.

And we went from Grand Finalists to missing the 8.... Could've been some dissension in the ranks and poor team morale that caused it because of those contract stand offs.... Nobody here can say for sure either way....
I recall early on in that year when Moses didn't ice those clutch moments in those early tight games we lost and a lot of chatter on here was is he worth the money and has it become a distraction.

Moses even arked up once at a mid week press conference early that season when the journos were questioning him about why it wasn't sorted before the season started and how it may have been a distraction for the team

I found the link for that press conference.

Its funny i just had quick look at a few pages in this thread around this time.

And it was similar chat about Moses being a distraction and to just sign the contract as his contract was more then reasonable for someone that had won nothing at the time.

Basically the same potential distraction this Drown contract could cause if it drags out to round 10.

Let's say it's not sorted and were losing were already know what the major talking point going to be.
