If Parramatta sensation Dylan Brown ends up jumping ship to Newcastle at the end of the season, Knights coach Adam O’Brien should send Eels legend Brett Kenny a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne.
Kenny no doubt meant well this week when he weighed in on the Brown contract saga, but all he did was provide the Knights with more ammunition as they look to convince the classy Eels half to explore his options elsewhere.

Kenny took umbrage at suggestions Brown was looking for $1.2 million a season to change clubs. Brown, mind you, has never commented on what he wants or expects from the Eels or rival clubs.

He has left the negotiations in the hands of his management, whose sole motivation is to source a better deal for their client. Their loyalty is to Brown, not the Eels.

Nevertheless, Kenny claimed the New Zealand international wasn’t worth the money that was apparently being asked. Which is all well and good, except Kenny is an Eels legend and too often in the recent past, club legends have taken aim at the club and their players.

It’s something that irked former coach Brad Arthur and new coach Jason Ryles has tried to stop by opening the doors to those who dug the well. All Ryles and the Eels expect in return is for those same legends to keep their nose out of club business.

Or at least not weigh into it publicly with daming commentary. Kenny did just that at a sensitive time in negotiations with Brown. The Knights are cashed up and have made it clear that if Brown is to join them, he will be protected from the sort of public criticism that Kenny dished out this week.

Kenny couldn’t help himself. The Knights were doing cartwheels.

I’m not sure what Kenny has to do with the Parramatta football club. His views are his own and have nothing to do with the organisation.

I'm really keen to see the 17 and then the next 6 or so players named for the trial next week.
We will most probably see Will P, Lomax, Simonnsen, Russell and Moses in the backs.
In the forwards maybe Hopgood, Matto, Doorey, Moretti, Jnr and Jack Williams. ( I think Lane is still injured.
Real interesting selection debates coming up.
Even #14 Papalii or Ryley Smith?
It's dare I say it...very exciting

Can he as he's suspended?
Be good if that's the case..just thought wouldn't be allowed in an nrl sanctioned match albeit a trial.
Maybe NSW cup?...in any case JAC will be great for us and the players he will mentor...
According to JAC (in this), he said he is playing next week. He said he couldnt play this week according to an NRL rule or something (think cause it's the same week as the All stars game he is using towards his suspension):

I think Kautoga and Samrani will both have roles to play during the year.
Let's not forget first game of the season, humid conditions, match fitness and conditioning lacking.
Kautoga absolutely needs to hold the ball first. Damaging enough. Hold it.
Samrani I like as can play centre or back row so can add that versatility. I think he played the whole match..
There are footballers in both these boys.
Papalli I'm a fan of. His turn of speed, jink, swerve,.nice ball playing as well could be a great addition to the bench able to play a number of roles.
Although Ionghi probably has 1st crack at fullback, Papalli will constantly be putting pressure on him...he's a good one
Or unless kautoga can learn how to catch a ball, I thought for that reason I thought he was bog average

I suspect the players don’t give a shit about public comments by the likes of Brett Kenny, but maybe they won’t want to be at a club where merkins like him are hanging around. A club’s greats are one of their resources, and ones with genuine media influence (like Sterling used to have but never appeared to use to our benefit) are at least a potentially beneficial resource. Greats like Kenny and Price are not positive resources. They are liabilities.

I can see why Dogs let Samrani and Katugo go. Joash might be the one who bites them on arse. The 2nd rower whilst has potential has the worse hands I've ever seen. Unsure if they can iron that out of him.I get impression this is the reason dogs let him go.
Samrani looked pretty slow. But first game of the year and first game at a new club. Seemed reasonably strong in contact and like everyone else will improve throughout the season
Will probably be 2nd or 3rd choice backup centre so hopefully isn’t required but should be good enough to fill in for a game or two if required

Kenny and Price are understandably bitter about missing the salary gravy train that modern players are on, so it would be funny if they were trying to extort the club. “Give us a hundred grand a year each or we’ll keep saying the first thing that comes into our heads when the media calls for a comment.”

Unfortunately they come across as two men who never took control of their own lives and just pointed the finger and blamed everyone else for their problems
