BROWN CHASE, KEEPING PONGA
Buzz:
How important is Dylan Brown to you?
O’Sullivan: If he’s serious about leaving we’d love to have him here and he’d change our footy team. If Dylan is here, we go from a top eight team to a genuine hope of winning a comp. That’s how highly I rate him. I’ve been trying to sign him since he was 17 when I worked for the Warriors. He’s a marvellous player and a marvellous kid. We’ll see what happens.
Buzz: There’s always rumours that your superstar fullback and captain Kalyn Ponga will go to the Roosters to eventually replace James Tedesco.
O’Sullivan: We want him here for life. We haven’t spoken about extending beyond 2027 because I want to get the roster into shape first. There’s no rush. Right now he might hesitate and want to see where we are heading. And that’s fair enough. He’s spoken about his dream of winning a title here and we’ve got to build the right squad to achieve that. Kalyn loves it here. The lifestyle suits him, his mum and dad are here, he lives 100 metres from the beach and I think he’s happy here.

THOSE BRAILEY RUMOURS
Buzz:
What about Jayden Brailey being moved on and dropped from the leadership group?
O’Sullivan: Last year they (the media) were giving it to us because we had too many people in the leadership group. And we did, so we reduced it. The players then chose four leaders - Kalyn, Tyson Frizell, Jacob Saifiti and Dane Gagai.
Brails didn’t have a problem with it. He said to Adam, ‘I don’t have to be in the leadership group to be a leader.’ He was really upset about rumours and innuendo that he wanted to leave now. It’s not factual. Brails is a great kid.

Buzz: Well, why are you letting him go?
O’Sullivan: You can’t have $1.6 million in your cap on two hookers on first grade money. Not in a properly balanced roster and salary cap. We’ve also got Phoenix Crossland. And Matty Arthur from Parramatta is next in line. You should have one hooker and a back-up. Phoenix is not off contract and Brails is. He’s a great boy and very popular. But we can’t keep them all. Simple as that.
We could definitely get brailey before the season starts, Don't know if he's that important now that we have smith though

Any coach needs to adapt his coaching and play to the strengths of the squad he has at his disposal... You can't keep drumming the same message into merkins if they aren't capable of executing it... It's an indictment on any coach who fails to adapt and evolve.... "It hasn't worked before but this year it just has to!"....
The fact is not every squad is equal. Some squads can play their absolute best and only win 14 games. Others can struggle with injury and suspension and still win 14 games. Coaching isn't the magic bullet. Every coach with more than three years in the NRL has a wide range of seasonal wins:

That is correct, however I DO know...

The Coach.... allowed Terrell May, the most consistent middle, with the biggest minutes, and the most consistent middle, to leave, after losing their most damaging middle, JWH, so if their middles are struggling, that would be a consequence of.....?

Little wonder Leniu is trying to get out.
You think the bloke who doesn't always feel like playing footy was their most consistent middle? Everyone knows Herman 'Cameron' Munster is their most consistent middle forward.

What is Terrell Mays attitude (with sources)?
We all know the sources:

May is a man who runs on motivation rather than discipline. It's fine when he's got something to prove, but not an attitude you want in the trenches. Parra has at least one bloke like this, and I suspect quite a few more.

Mate, I know you love a stat....

Terrell May games played 27
Herman Munster played 23

Terrell May average run metres 110m
Herman Munster average run metres 85m

Terrell May average minutes per game 45mins
HM 43.6mins

As a man of numbers, how would you define consistent?

You seem pretty positive that it's for no reason.

Just because you don't know the reason, doesn't mean there isn't one. My guess is that they wanted to free up cap space, but I don't know the reason.
Could be....could be that Robbo just said that "Oh cool, we just lost our most damaging middle, lets let push our most consistent middle out despite the fact he still has a low $$$ Contract".

Its possible.......regardless, it remains that it would be a result of the Coach that results in "his middles are struggling to get numbers in the tackle"

and STILL spat out the best and most consistent numbers of Roosters middles......your point?

I would define consistency as a quality that can’t be defined by number of games played in a single season, and certainly not by average metres per game. The latter stat is just the mean value of all games. It says nothing about the highest or lowest output in a single game.

Do you see Terrell May as a player who would help get numbers in the tackle? If he is pumping out the most metres per game, that means he’s in the team to carry the ball. In that case there will be others (e.g. Collins) whose main role is hard work in defence.

With three middles on the field at a time and only six tackles, some middle forwards will be required to run the ball more than others. Those others have defensive responsibilities with the fatigue they save on running the ball less.

Phil Rothfield’s highlights and lowlights: Dodd’s dud start a worry, Foxx escapes punishment

Alarm bells should be ringing at the Rabbitohs, Josh Addo-Carr’s lucky escape for some sideline sledging and more in Phil Rothfield’s highlights and lowlights from the week in sport.

LOWLIGHT
We admire what Shane Richardson is doing to rebuild the Wests Tigers. However, charging $102.50 for a grandstand seat at Leichhardt on Friday night, is outrageously over the top for trial games.

SHOOSH
It’s too early to suggest South Sydney’s expensive English halfback import Lewis Dodd is a poor signing, despite two disappointing trial match performances. However, this is a club that didn’t want to keep Adam Reynolds or Lachlan Ilias who both played well for the Broncos and Dragons on Saturday. Fans are entitled to be asking questions around their recruitment decisions.

SHOOSH
Which CEO flew to Las Vegas down the back in economy while his chairman and another director were up front in business class.
SIDELINE FOXING
Parramatta Eels winger Josh Addo-Carr has avoided a sanction for sledging Wests Tigers kicker Adam Doueihi as he was lining up a conversion attempt at Leichhardt on Friday night.
In fairness it appeared nothing more than a bit of fun and banter as Addo-Carr stood with Eels reserves next to the sidelines and unloaded, trying to put Doueihi off. Still, NRL rules state: “Under no circumstances will “barracking” or “abuse” from the bench be permitted.” As it was only a trial game, no action will be taken.

SPOTTED

Are you saying that Stats dont always tell the full story? That stats dont always trump what the eye sees?
