Us not matching offers is more about balancing our cap, rather than it being a reflection on what we think about the player.

My gut is that we 100% want him to stay and be part of the next 5 years.
I think our negotiations with Moses and offering him more money to remove player options under the new coach show who they truly see as a key part of the future.

The club under Ryles has refused to do this with Brown. My gut tells me he isn’t rated as much as the last coach did.

IIRC Munster & Paps did the same. I think we get caught up in our own bubble sometimes and think that our circumstances are somehow unique.
Never looked like Paps was leaving? nevertheless it was settled fairly quickly, not like Brown , Mose and Gutherson dragging months on end!!!

Which players couldn't wait to get out? That's quite different from you are describing with Gutho, Paulo and Reg. Our problem was more how we balanced our recruitment / retention. I haven't seen a shred of evidence that players were keen to get out.
How about having to move heaven and earth to keep ours ?? I rarely see other clubs having to fight tooth and nail to retain their players
Parra not matching other offers and potentially losing Brown is more about being mindful of how much we are budgeting in our spine than anything else imo.

Browns comes across non chalant and not a student of the game, which I think puts a lot of fans off him.
They are drawing a line in the sand, basically saying no more, personally I think that’s worth losing brown and setting up the club as a desirable destination and not a retirement fund, with no success

There are probably no clicks in Storm player contract negotiations. I mean, who cares if any player stays or goes? The only reason it would matter is if you’re a fan of the club getting the player.
So a manager playing a media game isn’t going to get far because of the care factor and because they are a strong club. We will always be news so there is an incentive for managers to play things out in the media.

================
The race to sign Parramatta Eels half Dylan Brown has exploded with reports two NRL clubs have tabled monster $13 million offers.

According to CODE Sports, a second unnamed club had joined the Newcastle Knights in offering Brown a 10-year deal worth $1.3m per season — yet the new club has threatened to pull its offer if it is publicly named.
=================

So the media is happy to leak everything about our club, but will protect this club ?
Assuming the club and its offer actually exists… It’s possible it’s true but it’s also just as likely to be more hot air from his manager.
He’s a very good player but 10 years?!? That’s the kind of deal you offer DCE or Cronk; both compete footballers and leaders, proven winners, and great communicators, with maturity, who can serve the club as ambassadors and be a stable presence for younger and newer players.
Brown isn’t in their league. Maybe that’s past coaching, I’m happy to be proven wrong, but so far he’s a great defender and ball runner, with a good passing game.

How much attention do you pay these issue at other clubs? They're called negotiations, and ours get in the media more than other clubs b/c the media know it presses the buttons of lots of people. When we let players go when we can't or won't match offers (e.g. Rhys, Ice) the club gets bagged. If we fight to keep them, the club gets bagged. Basically any outcome can be criticised without evidence.

Here’s a thought

When all these Orr and MON inspired shenanigans are finalised, would be a good idea for the club to actually provide an explanation of what advantages to the club these options were, and why they were agreed to. We are a fan based sporting club so why not .

We got hundreds of pages explaining the topic
No we don’t, just guesses from posters who believe they know why the club undertook that course of action.

Looking for the people tasked with that responsibility at the club to actually provide their reason, so we understand why any club would allow these options, especially after announcing that the player had signed for 8 years.

If Bailey isn't fit enough to play R1, I'd rather Joash be picked on the wing alongside Russell. No offense to Tago, but he just isn't good enough to be a starter, and I think Joash could be a solid player with good long-term potential.
