Right on cue from the chief enabler…

I just realised, Pou is a minority on this topic so you MUST support him no matter what he says.

As you were.
Your contribution to the site since you joined it has been 95% 'play-the-man'. Just disagree with people rather than descend into this shit. People are allowed to disagree.

Has it been mentioned that if Brown signs a 10 yr deal with Newcastle he’ll be about 35 by the end of it? Does anyone seriously think that he’s the type of half that will still be top of the tree in his mid 30s? I can’t see it.
I’m looking forward to seeing his game in our new setup. There have been plenty of comments by players and observers about the attention given to skills and ‘details’.
The criticisms of him aren’t around his talent it’s more his consistency of involvement, ability to lead a team, and headspace.
That could change, he might thrive in the new environment and training, and become the type of player worth giving a lengthy fixed term contract.
And to be fair, just because he hasn’t been a half that can lead a team around doesn’t mean he can’t be great in his way.
Yeah the game has changed but no one ever criticised Brett Kenny for not having Sterlo’s kicking game or being able to lead a team around.

matterson re signed mid 2022, brown re signed in december 2022, Moses early 2023 and Penisini mid 2023

who were on POs prior to this??? RCG?
This might help you: https://forums.leagueunlimited.com/threads/squad-succession.437729/

In 2019 we had three players with POs; Alvaro, Nrown and Moses.

In 2020 we had Alvaro, Nrown, Mennings, Moses, Matterson and RCG.

In 2021 we had Nrown, Moses, Matterson, RCG and Drown.

In 2022 we had Moses, Matterson, Drown and Sivo.

In 2023 we had Moses, Matterson, Drown and Talagi.

In 2024 we had Moses, Matterson, Drown, Talagi and Penisini.

In 2025 we have Matterson, Drown and Penisini.
i dont see how the stated POs helped our performance in the 19, 20, 21 and 22 seasons???
They helped us fit merkins under the cap. Moses has had player options in his contract since 2019, Matterson since 2020 and Drown since 2021. The same three blokes. Certain players are obviously happy to exchange a bit of cash for the security of a PO. Most of them evidently aren't. They want to maximise their income instead.

If Dylan wasn’t so inconsistent then I’d fight for him. Big most times he’s off with the fairies. I just can’t believe other clubs want to make him the richest player. I hope he goes. If I were Ryles I’d be dropping him hints that he’s not required.

So in 23/34 we had POs but didn't make the finals interesting 🤔

We still had the player options though during those years we didn't make the finals....
There was also more demand for our best players due to their form during the years we did make the finals. More POs would have helped keep costs down. The alternative is letting merkins leave. That's acceptable when your team is good enough to win a grand final but not when they were only good enough to make one. Rival clubs don't decide your players aren't worth big money just because they didn't win the comp. This is why we've lost more games than we've won in the year after every grand final since 1986.

We let Merkins leave though..

Reed Marata Ice all while we had POs so they didn't really do their job.

We also slide down the ladder with POs

He’s still dying on the PO hill. We don’t offer them any more mate.

It’s been a bad year for Pou. Morgan Harper the defensive specialist, BA got sacked, now our ‘smart’ PO strategy has been shut down.
Harper still an NRL backup, Arthur still coaching, and our PO strategy got us into the finals four straight years. We've gone downhill on the field since Arthur was sacked and even more since we offered our last PO.

I don't get this 'off with the fairies' stuff. When you consider runs and tackles he is probably the hardest working back in the game.
