Parramatta eye off Jarome Luai or Lachlan Galvin to replace Dylan Brown, but what of own nursery?

The impending departure of Dylan Brown leaves Parramatta with big money to splash, the question is will they chase a known star or promote from within. SEE ALL THE CONTENDERS HERE

Dean Ritchie

A friendship built on State of Origin success between Mitch Moses and Jarome Luai could prompt Parramatta to pursue the Wests Tigers star as a high-profile replacement for the departing Dylan Brown.
Parramatta is yet to draw up a wish list to succeed Brown but is aware Luai’s has a get-out clause and that Wests Tigers teammate Lachlan Galvin could be a free agent from November 1.
The Eels have $1m to $1.2m a season to spend in coming years, money set aside for Brown.
Parramatta’s selling point will be an offer to play alongside Moses, the incumbent NSW halfback.
An Eels junior, Galvin’s family retains a strong relationship with Parramatta and its junior league.

Parramatta has nurtured a burgeoning nursery of rising stars who the cub believes can attain NRL status – but not for another two to three years.
Melbourne’s Tyran Wishart, Wigan’s Bevan French and Wests Tigers’ Latu Fainu, not off contract until the end of 2027, have also been mooted as possible replacements for Brown.
Moses and Luai formed a strong bond for NSW last year.
The pair played games II and III together, inspiring NSW to successive victories which sealed the series.
While Parramatta have not, and cannot, approach Luai, the Eels know he has a get-out clause in his contract allowing him to leave after next season.
Galvin has another season at Wests Tigers with the club desperately trying to convince the gun rookie to remain long-term.

Apa Twidle is a nother promising young half on Parramatta's books.

Apa Twidle is a nother promising young half on Parramatta's books.
He has resisted re-signing and may opt to enter the open market from November 1.
Moses’ agent, Isaac Moses, also manages Galvin.
Having digested Brown’s decision to sign a 10-year, $13m deal with Newcastle, Parramatta is attempting to move forward from the New Zealand five-eighth.
Parramatta have former Souths Sydney halfback Dean Hawkins, who has a calf injury, in their NRL roster.
The Eels have a production line of halves coming through their junior representative ranks.

An Australian Schoolboy last year, the club have high expectations for young halfback Lincoln Fletcher, who likely plays Jersey Flegg this season. He has signed a three-year deal at the club.
Parramatta also talk highly about halfback/five-eighth John Lynn, a Queensland kid, who will play Jersey Flegg or NSW Cup this year.
Young New Zealand-born Apa Twidle played five-eighth in Parramatta’s trial against Wests Tigers.
Parramatta’s SG Ball side is undefeated this season.

I’d be very surprised if we could afford both Moses and Luai.

Lachlan Galvin drops massive hint about next NRL club in shock act against Wests Tigers

Tigers fans are sure to be furious at star five eighth Lachlan Galvin after he made it clear which club he wants to play for, and it’s not the Tigers.

Tigers playmaker Galvin is set to head to free agency, with sports reporter Michael Chammas reporting the 19-year-old and his agent Isaac Moses continue to shut down the joint venture’s attempts to lock him into a long-term deal, instead planning to test his value on the open market come November 1.

“Lachie Galvin is in no rush to commit to the Wests Tigers and management is out there basically letting it be known to every club, ‘Get your chequebook ready because we’re hitting November 1’,” Chammas said on 100% Footy on Monday night.

“ … I imagine there’ll be plenty of suitors lining up with that chequebook.”

Galvin is said to be earning $250,000 this year with his salary reportedly set to be budged up to $350,000 in 2026.

And on Tuesday, Galvin appeared to show his hand on where he would ideally like to go, liking an Instagram comment calling for him to return to the Eels.

On a recent Instagram post by the five-eighth, one Eels fan wrote: “We love you, bro. It’s time to come home. You are meant to be written in Parra Eels history. The first 6 to end the premiership drought. You know it’s embedded deep in your soul. Come home, king.”

It was a rather desperate plea from an Eels fan clearly hurting from the announcement Brown had signed a 10-year $13m deal to join the Knights, but Galvin liked the comment, sparking rumours it could be his preferred destination. And it makes sense.

Galvin is a Parramatta kid and grew up supporting the Eels.

Plus with Brown’s $1.1m contract off the books, they have a lot of wiggle room in their salary cap.

Galvin liked a comment linking him to the Eels.

Galvin is said to be earning $250,000 this year, with his salary reportedly set to be $350,000 in 2026.

However, his next deal likely would see him command upwards of $500,000 and potentially even closer to $1 million given the lack of quality halves available.

“I would be offering Galvin a Newcastle-type contract,” Rothfield said.

“People like Phil Gould are on record as saying that guy will win Premierships, he is a very, very special player.

“And I know he didn’t show it necessarily against Newcastle the other night, but I think he’s closer to a million-dollar-plus player than Dylan Brown.”

Galvin being on only $350k next year will not be enough for the Tigers to hold him back assuming the kid seriously wants to come to the Eels in 2027. I reckon we will jag him and he will ask for a release in 2026.

It’s not like he hasn’t done it before.

Why are most on here infatuated with getting another high priced 6....we have Moses...all we need is a 6 that is very good defensively and can just do a job playing off Moses and at a reasonable price....we have so many other weaknesses in this side that need to be a priority
Moses has shown he is becoming an injury risk. Think we need a 6 that has the capacity to really step up and run the team when needed, with a strong kicking game

He'll reportedly be on 350 000 next year. Assuming as we do that the media inflates salary figures, he could be on less than that.
I doubt Richo lets him go . He can park him without too much of a hit to the cap.
If he was on enough money for it to be problematic to the tigers cap then it would be a different story.
I doubt he'll be available until 2027 without a comparable playerswap.

Thisnis the aftermath of what we did in early 2022 handing out all those wild contracts and the reason why we are now in a rabble. Every club needs to be able to refresh and bring in youth each year. We blocked everyone. Whoever was responsible for this is to blame. The squad management was irresponsible.
Who did we block? Two halves with less potential than the guys we already had? Who else was blocked and had to leave? Dylan Brown? Did he leave because we re-signed Moses and ruined Drown's chance of playing halfback?!?

You make him an offer prior. But if he says no I want to test the open market in Nov 1 you turn your attention to the young kids. If one of them signs then you start looking for 2nd rowers and Dylan you move on from.
Its simple. Instead we've lost all 3 young talents.
We have more coming through. Check the SG Ball team.
