He still potentially is a better halfback than Volkman/Hawkins. The question was whether to throw the baby (our 2025 season) out with the bath water (continuing with Brown).saw enough of him @ 7 last year to make me think he is not and never will be a 7
They are horrendous images especially since the shoot defenders don’t even look likely to attempt tackleView attachment 99946

Is this what they have been training in the offseason????
Seems like the defender who is directly responsible is shooting the ball carrier and the rest of the line isn't
You’re not the first person but I’d like to know where the notion that Nathan Brown has a good footy brain comes from. I never thought in any of his tenures that he showed any sort of above average capability. Our form has been terrible, and not sure when it will turn around.
But I don't think it's ever as bad as it seems.
- we have our best and most important player out in Moses
- our spine is pretty inexperienced with 4 players with a combined experience of 50 or so games (hands, Volk, smith, Ilongi). Only Drown is experienced but is not providing much
- our bench is pretty inexperienced
- our middle signing Williams has had to play edge
- 2 games at 35 plus degrees....we looked cooked Sunday, is that an affect of the Storm game?
assuming Ryles isn't a "Brennan" coach...I don't think it takes a massive squad overhaul to change it around.
Reckon we need to sign 2 experienced forwards. Middle and edge and we replace Drown. Our backs seem ok and we have some youngsters. Samrani / papa / AMS / young Pensini look promising. Simonson and JAC are still to come back. The rest of the squad is pretty youthful and will get better
Yeah disappointing but think in 12 months it will be ok. Also with Nath Brown, Ryles has a good footy "brain" to help, Brown has been in similar situations at the Dragons (rookie coach) and Knights (had to rebuild a young squad).
Lane and Matterson each have options for 2026, same with Penisini. Paulo signed for 2026. It's not until 2027 that we are free of these overpaid merkins.Over the next 18 months we have approximately $6million in cap space available to sign players, players like matterson , paulo , Cartwright, lane , lussick etc will not be resigned and a host of others , providing the r and r are half smart I believe ryles will have a team he truely wants in his third year ,beneficial if we could get a Gould type alpha male in to help ryles

we can argue whether his coaching about is average/about average....but my point was Ryles has an experienced assistant in Nathan Brown who has been involved in coaching roles with several NRL / Super league clubs over the last 20 or so years (so he must have some idea)......and he has experienced a lot of different situations, so it helps Ryles/Eels determine next step in process / don't panic / etc etc etc.....Brown has seen it all.....experience counts for a lot in league....You’re not the first person but I’d like to know where the notion that Nathan Brown has a good footy brain comes from. That is truly depressing. Lane has always been a drifter, he had a career season in 2022 and we fell over ourselves to sign him long term. I do not see him ever re-capturing 2022 form.Lane and Matterson each have options for 2026, same with Penisini. Paulo signed for 2026. It's not until 2027 that we are free of these overpaid merkins.
Not necessarily but I’ll agree he’s experienced in shit situationswe can argue whether his coaching about is average/about average....but my point was Ryles has an experienced assistant in Nathan Brown who has been involved in coaching roles with several NRL / Super league clubs over the last 20 or so years (so he must have some idea)......and he has experienced a lot of different situations, so it helps Ryles/Eels determine next step in process / don't panic / etc etc etc.....Brown has seen it all.....experience counts for a lot in league....
Isaac Moses is Pensisini's Manager yeah? I suspect Mitch decides whether he stay or goes now. That is truly depressing. Lane has always been a drifter, he had a career season in 2022 and we fell over ourselves to sign him long term. I do not see him ever re-capturing 2022 form.
Junior has been ineffective for at least 2 years, I would assert even in 2022 his decline was starting to show. He's definitely not going to turn things around between now and the end of 2026...
Matto is Matto... Caveat Emptor
Penisini was reported as saying in February that he was keen to exercise his PO.... But nothing since then I don't think. My money says he has his agent exploring offers with a view to getting a deal elsewhere if something decent comes along.... Don't hold your breath Will....

You're taking the piss if you think the Raiders forwards are worse than the forward pack we put on the field on the weekend. The only two players of NRL starting pack standard were Williams and Hopgood. Paulo is good for 15 minutes either side of half time, Offengaue 20 minutes somewhere. The rest aren't NRL standard. One guy is 19, who showed the rest up to be the actual pathetic pieces of shit they are. Both the Roosters and Raiders overcame more talented squads with (on paper) worse forwards. Yet both those packs stood up and showed real drive and effort. Our forwards (for the most part) showed none of that. For me, Doorey and Sam Tuivati were the only highlights of the pack. Williams was good as well, but I don't think he's a second rower, too many errors in his game.
So you’re in the f**k Brown, drop him so he has no chance of a miracle turn into Sterlo at the expense of potentially even worse results and maybe negatively impacting some development of other players? Me too although yeah maybe we need to suck it up for few weeks until Moses is closer to return.good pont, but I think this season is gone and personally I would like to see if there is any potential in Hawkins, or even some of our juniiors, than give Dylbo a leg up for Newcastle to benefit becuase I think it was mentioned that he'd be a No 7 at Newcastle
or just bide our time till Mitch is back
