I hope Price and all the old boys of the 80s boys are still around when we win one and hope they are there to experience it.... but although they have waited a long time for us to win another one they all did have their moment in the sun already (multiple).

Hindy was the player who in the last 40 years deserves that moment more than anyone... he played over 300 games for the club including the 2x losing GFs and a couple of semis/prelims as well. He's turned into a running joke in Rugby League of his individual failures but this more so reflects on the club itself.

he's up there with Steve Rogers, ET, Junior Pearce and Hayne as the greatest players never to win a comp.

I’m on fence about signing him but with the way Gould has gone about things, I just don’t want him to go to Dogs

Yeah this.
If he goes to the Dolphins or Sharks or Bears, etc I don’t give much of a shit.

If he ends up at the Dogs though I’ll be furious.
Especially after Gus tried playing his mind games, “pulling out” of the race for Galvin and supposedly not having any interest in him at all.

I get the feeling Jim’s mowing and trolley boy MON Will totally stuff the Galvin deal. And he’ll go to the Dogs. I don’t think these morons know of to sign a decent player. They only know how to sign reserve graders that player managers want to off load to any club to just to keep their boys employed.

Gus Gould will eat them up and spit them out I reckon. He’ll take Galvin to the Chinese restaurant vs Jim’s mowing and Mon taking him to Maccas. Levels!

If we can’t afford him then we can’t afford him. Not much we can do about that.
I’d rather the club not overextend themselves cap wise to sign this bloke when we have so many other areas of the team we need to fix.

We already have a half in the team on over a million dollars a year. Does it make sense to have two of them?

Let me ask you this…what if we could sign him but the only way we can is to offer him a player option or two in his contract? Would you do it then?

He’s playing again. Maybe if we sign him for a third time it’ll work!!
Remember he had a gigantic boot on him.
If he focused on that and kicked 2 or 3 40-20s per game in the lower leagues plus held his own in D he would have a role to play.
#This is me just arguing for change/improvement to the 40-20 rule.

We couldn’t keep Drown because he got a ridiculous offer that we didn’t think was worth matching. With our current fullback and hooker there’s no reason we can’t splurge on another half.

But should we splurge that much though?
Galvin will cost close to a million, maybe more.

We could find someone for $600k-$800k and use the extra money to splurge on the forward pack which is desperately needed.

Hindy is my favourite ever player and its not even close... but I despise him in the Media, he's slowly turning into a Price/Kenny rent a quote.

Playing the clown on the MJ show is one thing and he does it well... but when he actually tries to contribute with his 'expertise' on the game its embarrassing. I've also never really thought since he's retired that he portrays himself as a bloke who loves the club that much?

I always think of ET embracing Gallen after the Sharks won the comp in 16, the pure outpouring of emotion that ET showed... That should be Hindy's moment with the Eels when (if!) we ever win one, but then I also think would Hindy react in the same way? I have my doubts.
True. ET was a total show pony though.
Those scenes of tears etc are often staged to a certain extent. Hindmarsh at least as a player was the opposite of a show pony.
You might get that scene out of Hayne (maybe Cayless not that he is a show pony) or an older fella like Peter Wynn.

I think you always pay up for the skills that pay the bills.

at least Hayne via his socials has shown some emotion when we're doing well, he even posted a vid celebrating with his daughter after Lomax got us home against saints.

Moving on Gutho was the right call.

And it showed me at the time Ryles is the right man in charge to get us out of this mess.

And nothing i have seen so far after 11 rounds has changed my mind despite the results.

A lot of Rookie coaches wouldn't be that brave before they even had 1 pre-season training session moving on the captain who was seen as the heart & soul on the field.
I reckon the Gutherson decision was made before we signed Ryles. Probably before we sacked Arthur’s.

Ben Elias, Blocker Roach, Garry Jack and Paul Sironen. That Balmain team of the late 80s was great.

Tommy Raudonikis.
Stacy Jones.
Kerry Boustead.

Some great players that never won one.
Even Frank Burge never won, and he’s been made an Immortal.

There’s no way those tears were staged.
That was 40 years of emotion coming out all at once.
I reckon I’ll be the same if we ever do win the big one again.
