I think you’re correct but from the wrong angle. I think in attack we’re taking plenty of risk in attack (albeit we are still slow in our attack which probably adds to the risk factor). Several times we spread it and it was heart in mouth with how quickly we had to catch and pass. Those types of plays regularly wind up with a knock on/forward pass/ball over sideline. We pass at the line which even riskier of a spilled ball or a Hopgood no look pass to the ground.
Where we don’t take risk is in defence. I don’t necessarily mean a defender shooting out of line to put a big hit on (although when was last time we’ve seen that) but as a team we let the opposition get over the advantage line because it is “safer” and we’re “safer” in that we appear to conserve energy in defence to be “more effective” in attack (which like yesterday is useless if that still means the opposition is starting their set on halfway).
I mentioned it elsewhere that we don’t have momentum shifters outside maybe Walker in attack. We certainly don’t have any in defence.
I like your reply.
I agree with you. We dont really go hunting in a pack and lots of times I see 2 players entangled with a struggling attacker and no one goes in to shut the tackle down. THere are times where players are sometimes watching but not getting involved. The attacker then breaks away or does an offload.
I don't disagree regarding the big hits but Kautoga smashed Galvin yesterday and we have seen Jnr do it too a few times. RCG used to lead the pack with that and we didn't replace him.
I agree with your summation of our attack. It is nice and I like it, especially with Walker and what he provides. We still don't know how to use JAC properly and Iongi for mine is still finding his feet as to when to dummy and go or throw a cutout which alot of the times go over the sideline)
However, i don't think we should ignore our offloading abilities. In past years, it really was what made the difference against penrith and storm and why we troubled them as it was unpredictable and it made them work harder.
We were going set to set at 1 stage with the dogs they might've had the upper hand in some of the set to set but a late Cirraz offload gave them a massive advantage.
