Penrith may be on the verge of losing another grand final hero.

Sport Confidential understands that the management of Luke Garner – who has another year remaining on his deal with the Panthers – were given permission to have a quiet look around in recent weeks.

It is understood Parramatta were among the clubs interested in the versatile backrower but Garner looks set to move to a rival after they tabled a three-year deal for his services.

Garner has played 39 games for the Panthers over the past three seasons and was a member of the sides that won 2023 and 2024 premierships.

The 29-year-old shapes as a handy pick-up for another NRL club given his versatility – he has played second row, lock and centre in his NRL career.

Does this count as another failure by MON
so who is he going to

Luke garner is what we’re trying to turn Samrani into, would’ve been a good pickup for a year or two given he is 30 this year

It’s only a failure if you pay too much. This is why we’re in the predicament we’re in. We paid too much to a bunch of players who are now either playing elsewhere, playing poorly, or not playing at all.

Not that I agree with your statement , as players were released and not subject to the club paying anything in their new contract.

But as a whole , who’s responsible for those decisions that perhaps stuffed the cap. Yep our renowned football admin gurus.

There are plenty of merkins still here not providing value.

How were they to know the players would all turn to shit? Those players took us to four straight finals series. No way would the likes of you have accepted rebuilding without first winning a premiership. This is why clubs (every club except Melbourne) follows a period of success with a rebuild. If you're constantly replacing your first graders with youngsters you will struggle to ever make the finals.

That’s a really bad argument. You know the balance of every team is unique. Just because one team (the four time premiership winners no less) can afford to carry a player doesn’t mean another team can.
We need another edge forward and they don't. That would explain why we made him an offer, so it's actually not "a really bad argument". It's actually a very logical one.

For someone who prides themselves on good arguments you’re not doing a very good job here. Anyone can sign a nuffy edge backrower. Does the current balance of our team mean we can get away with a nuffy backrower or do we need a quality one?
