He set his family up for success though.

That's all that mattered in BA's eyes.

Family first, club second.

We all saw it a long time ago.

Some though were blinded & couldn't see it.

No wonder PVL back tracked after speaking to a few people in the game and then had to go get Meninga to coach Perth.

FFS BA lost the unloseable job.
If we’re applying @Poupou Escobar metric consistently, then BA might not have been that great after all.

Pou used that same standard to criticise Daniel Anderson plenty of times—missing out on opportunities.

heaps of frustration at the moment I feel due to:
1) missing on Galvin - we should not have come out so public in our pursuit of him
2) Moses injuries
Apart from that I feel we have taken many steps forward this year, which might not help with the 2025 ladder position but are likely to after that. The build looks much more sustainable than in the past.
The hard calls made on older players do all seem to have been correct.

His better then about 4 coaches currently in the game atm.

Which says a lot about the current state of coaches in the game.

But the stench & mess he left at Parra hasn't gone unnoticed across the game behind the scenes.

There will be another 4 NRL jobs available in the next 12 months it would be a surprise if he didn't land at any of those 4 clubs.

But nothing is guaranteed.

I just hope he ends up at Manly.

There juniors are a bigger mess then what we are and BA will get the Turbos on big money in a further steep decline.

I get where you're coming from, but that's a defeatist attitude. Just because the Roosters, Storm, and Panthers have set the bar high doesn’t mean we shouldn’t expect better from our own club. Settling for “we can’t do better” is exactly why we’re stuck in mediocrity.
No, we might just be stuck in mediocrity due to structural issues. Refusing to accept it (‘settle for’) is likely why we missed the finals between 2009 and 2017.

That’s a fair perspective but there’s a difference between refusing to accept mediocrity and not recognising when deeper structural issues are at play. If the system underneath isn’t strong poor development, recruitment misfires, no succession planning then no amount of "standards" or tough talk changes the outcome.

The club did refuse to settle from 2009 to 2017, but without fixing the foundation, it led to constant chopping and changing without real progress. Sometimes acknowledging those deeper issues is the first step to actually breaking out of the cycle....

Fair point on coaches, but this isn’t about Ryles.. it’s about the recruitment team that’s been in place since 2019.

They’ve had years to build depth, pathways, and succession, and still we fall off a cliff when a few players leave. That’s not bad luck.. that’s poor planning.
Prior to this year we had the worst training facility in Sydney. Securing the funding and building it was something that took time. The Panthers had state of the art facilities in 2016 ffs. Where’d they get the money for that?

Ands that’s just facilities. All the other stuff, including pathways, requires funding too. Now, we might not have had enough prior to the current admin coming on board (our facilities and pathways suggest we didn’t), but maybe we do now. Our facilities and pathways suggest we do. In that case, does current management really deserve criticism?

No we should be happy with smith and hands and accept mediocrity

I think the situation is a bit more complicated than that..

we have Hands tied up ( excuse the pin ) for next year with Smith and Lachie Coinakis on a long term deal. I think the club will persist with Hands/Smith and Get Coinakis on a D deal over the off season..it's a gamble but I think it's the logical thing for a club that is hellbent in becoming a pathways and development champion of the NRL, and saves them from having to negotiate and compete with players externally.

And Davey and Lane will return to Manly
