It was an interesting one in both these cases. We didn't want them for 2026 so do we hang on to them for '25 (which we could have done) or do the right thing by the player and let them go when they found a multi-year contract?

Not sure myself what the "right" option would be.

There's something to be said for 'altrusim' as a club benefit. If you get a reputation as a hard arse club that holds players to contracts when they want to leave, it can make it harder to recruit in the future.

I am not sold on TDS hasn't proved his worth yet in the NRL.

Also on Jim's mowing we only seem to sign players that are on the outer of their club. If we spend anymore than 300k a season for him we have over paid.

Cartwright's form in NSW Cup has been poor (actually solid, which is poor for a first grader), however Matterson has been immense in his NSW Cup appearances this year. Something else is going on with him. I'd say Ryles is just off him.
