With Matto that decision he made 5 years ago to take the suspension rather than the fine ruined him for Eels people. Everything he has done since then on the field (handling error or whatever) looks like he doesn't care and is bad for the culture. He could have done more off the field to make it up to the fans.

Was October 22 so less than 3 years ago . Selfish merkin.

Some other poster on here used to spruik to try and justify the signings of

Kearney
Sandow
Joseph Paulo
Watmough
Momoisea

And a few others. He has a success rate of 5% and can make a turd appear like a Snickers bar.

Other clubs signed all those guys, so I was right and you were wrong.

So what. It's common sense majority of forwards decline once hit 30.
All these blokes where late 20s.Top clubs are ruthless and aren't doing these stupid deals. Two of them would of been fine. All 4 was ridiculous.
It was for the window

BA knew his time was up and he thought he could jag a premiership from 2023-24
So he didn't care what we payed them or what options they got as long as he had them for 2023-24 (it's not BA's money) and it won't be his problem if he got the sack.

If he had won the premiership in his window, no one would care that much about ageing forwards and player options coz ding dong, the 2nd witch was dead.

Alas... that didn't happen

It was the last throw of the dice and he threw everything at it. Now if he listened to Avenger and sold his house and bought bitcoin instead, he could've bought Parra today

That's fine. If they're elite at 28 they should still be first graders at 31. Junior Paulo is older than Matterson, Lane and Cartwright, and he is having his best season in years. JDB is older than all of them and outplaying them too. Their age isn't the problem.

I reckon this is a big part of it. We didn't want to rebuild without a premiership so we went all in. It's easy in hindsight to say we should've started rebuilding in 2022, but at the time every merkin would've pissed their knickers.

We went all in on the old men in decline and let go of young bucks on the up. What could go wrong?

Matto played like a deadset cat at times. Did have his moments of good form but doesn't fit the mould of the modern day forward. No leg speed , no line speed , didn't love heavy contact, didn't fill gaps in the defensive line. To top it all off made self serving decisions and is a wannabe influencer. Hope he loves the UK and the influenza scene there and decides its a great place to be in 2026.

Lane reported to be on similar.

by whom ? not even close according to google

Shaun Lane, a second-rower for the Parramatta Eels, is currently contracted with the club until the end of the 2025 season, with a mutual option for 2026. He signed a three-year extension in October 2022. Previously, he had signed a three-year deal in 2020, worth $1.3 million, to stay with the Eels until the end of the 2023 season.

Based on that and being close to Australian selection in 2022 the guess would be accurate. $600k seems reasonable to me.
